Buffs Start Strong at the Battle in the Bay Classic

El Sayed and Stanojevic win in singles to advance to the round of 16.

SAN FRANCISCO – The Colorado Buffaloes tennis team got the fall started at the Battle in the Bay Classic behind two seniors Aya El Sayed and Mila Stanojevic who each won their singles match to advance to the round of 16.

Action got started with doubles against Georgia's Anastasiia Lopata and Sofia Rojas defeated Mila Stanojevic and Aya El Sayed 8-5. This is only the fourth match the pair has played together in their career. The previous three matches were last year's Battle in the Bay.

El Sayed took the court next for singles against Portland's Alaia Rubio Perez and started the season strong winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 for the first match of the fall.

Wrapping up the day Stanojevic took on Semra Aksu from Virginia Tech picked up right where she left off last season with a 6-2, 6-0 win to advance to the round of 16. Going back to the end of last season this marks the sixth consecutive win for Stanojevic and the 98th overall win of her career including doubles.

Up Next
The Buffs will be back in action tomorrow at the Battle in the Bay Classic with both El Sayed and Stanojevic in the singles round of 16. The duo will look to improve in the consolation rounds of doubles play.
