CU takes on TCU in Fort Worth on Thursday
IRVING, Texas – Colorado forward Hope Leyba helped the Buffaloes secure six points in a 2-0 week and improve to 2-0-1 in Big 12 action, on her way to earning Co-Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
The honor is the second weekly award of the junior's career.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native scored all four goals for the Buffs last week. She opened the week with her second hat trick of the season in CU's 3-1 win over Iowa State. With the hat trick, she became the first Colorado player to record multiple in a season and just the second to have multiple in a career.
Her hot hand continued on Sunday when she recorded the game-winner in the 86th minute against Houston, upping her NCAA lead in goals this season to 13.
Leyba also leads the nation in points (26) and goals per game (1.18). She is just one of two players in the nation this season to record multiple hat tricks.
She split the honor for a second time with TCU's Seven Castain, who scored three goals for TCU last week..
The award is Colorado's 38th Big 12 honor and the 10th offensive honor in the program's history. CU rejoined the conference in the 2024 season.
Buffs Take on TCU
FORT WORTH – Colorado heads out on the road for the first time in conference play, jumping down to Texas on Thursday to take on No. 7 TCU (6 p.m. MT/ESPN+).
It will be the fifth meeting between the two schools. Colorado won the inaugural meeting in Boulder back in 2017, but since then, TCU has won three straight.
Colorado recorded its fourth shutout of the season with a 1-0 win over Houston on Sunday. Senior goalkeeper Jordan Nytes has been in net for all four. She continues to move up the record books, now tied for third in program history in shutouts (23) and wins (33). The Buffs are 97-0-15 when not allowing a goal under head coach Danny Sanchez.
Jordan Whiteaker and Faith Leyba assisted the game-winning goal against Houston. For Whiteaker, it was her fifth helper of the season, tying her with Emerson Layne for the team lead. Leyba's flick on to Hope for the goal marked the second time the two sisters combined for a goal this season. The twins are the first CU sisters to assist on each other's goal since Tatum Barton assisted on Tessa Barton's goal vs Northern Colorado on Sept. 19, 2019.
TCU (6-0-3, 3-0-0) has key wins over then-No. 9 Iowa, at Texas, and then-No. 14 Kansas. The Horned Frogs are third in the conference with 2.20 goals per game. Seven Castain is second in the conference, behind Leyba, with nine goals this season.
