Serem Leads Buffs to Runner-Up Finish at Nuttycombe Invitational

MADISON, Wis.Dominic Serem led the way for the Colorado men's cross country team with a fourth-place individual finish, guiding the Buffaloes to a runner-up team result at the 2025 Nuttycombe Invitational, held Friday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. The women's team also turned in a strong showing, finishing 12th in a deep national field.

Serem ran with the lead pack from the start, sitting 28th at the 2,000-meter split before surging into second at the 4K mark. He maintained a top-five position through the final stages, crossing the line in 23:20.2 to finish fourth overall.

Isaiah Givens, James Overberg, and Dean Casey each secured top-40 finishes to help the Buffs lock down the runner-up spot behind host Wisconsin. Givens placed 31st in 23:47.1, followed closely by Overberg in 33rd at 23:49.5 and Casey in 36th at 23:51.7. Lukas Haug rounded out the scoring five in 46th with a time of 23:55.8.

Also racing in the Men's 8K B Race were sophomore Kole Mathison, senior Grady Rauba, and junior Charles Robertson, who all posted strong performances: On the women's side, freshman Mia Larochelle led the Buffs with an impressive 38th-place finish in 20:31.0. She was joined closely by sophomore Abbey Nechanicky, who placed 48th in 20:34.3, and sophomore Juliette Forstrom, who finished 59th with a time of 20:45.7.

Freshman Holly Barker (97th, 21:07.7) and freshman Ella Hagen (113th, 21:14.4) completed the scoring five for Colorado, showing strong depth in one of the nation's most competitive women's fields.

Junior Linda Weigang (145th, 21:37.6) and senior Pippa Roessler (206th, 22:32.9) rounded out the Buffs' lineup.

Women's Results Also racing in the Women's 6K B Race, freshman Georgia Bell placed 41st with a time of 22:13.9, maintaining a steady pace throughout and finishing with a strong final split of 7:35.7.

"It was a great day for the men and for Dominic to establish themselves in a consistent way at the top of the NCAA," said Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Sean Carlson. "The women ran great even with a few being held out. They beat a lot of ranked teams, and we're continuing to build depth in our lineup. Over the next two weeks, we'll rest, recover, and iron out the final details heading into championship season."

Next up, the Buffaloes will turn their attention to the Big 12 Championship, set for Oct. 31 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kansas.
