Colorado Women Surge to No. 12, Men Crack Top Five
BOULDER — The Colorado Buffaloes climbed to new heights under second year director of cross country and track and field Sean Carlson, with the men breaking into the top five and the women making the nation's largest leap to No. 12 in the USTFCCCA rankings released Tuesday.
The women's squad made the biggest move of the week, surging from No. 26 to No. 12 after placing third at the Gans Creek Classic. Jessie Secor led the way in 17th place with a time of 19:41.8, while freshmen Mia Larochelle (21st, 19:46.8) and Hannah Prosser (22nd, 19:47.8) gave CU back to back top 25 finishers. The Buffs, who were fifth through 1000 meters, surged into third by 3000 meters and held position to the finish in a field that featured 12 ranked teams among 31 entries.
Colorado began the season ranked No. 24 before slipping two spots, then posted a 14 spot jump this week, the largest by any program this season. It marks CU's highest ranking since opening the 2023 season at No. 5.
On the men's side, Colorado rose to No. 5 after finishing third at Gans Creek. Newcomer Dominic Serem led the Buffs with a fifth place finish in 22:45.2, followed by Isaiah Givens in 15th. Two other CU runners finished in the top 30, and seven placed in the top 55. It is the Buffs' best ranking since 2022, when they opened at No. 5 and closed the year eighth.
Up next: Colorado returns to action Oct. 17 at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., one of the nation's premier regular season meets.
