Nytes Earns Second Goalkeeper of the Week
October 22, 2025 | Soccer
IRVING, Texas – Colorado netminder Jordan Nytes made led the Big 12 in saves last week, helping her secure her second consecutive conference Goalkeeper of the Week honor as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
The honor is the ninth of Nytes' career. She earned five last season on her way to being named the 2024 Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year. The nine Big 12 weekly Goalkeeper of the Week honors are the most by an individual goalkeeper since the award began in the 2020-21 season. Madison White of Texas Tech has 10 weekly honors from 2019-23, with three of them being Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The Aurora, Colo., native made 13 saves in the Buffs' two matches in Utah last week. She secured her 36th career victory with six saves in the 2-1 victory at Utah on Thursday. The win over the Utes was her 11th of the season.
Nytes bested her saves by one at BYU, totaling seven in Colorado's chaotic 2-2 draw against the Cougars. She made four key saves in the second half to shutout the Cougars' attack in the final 45 minutes.
Nytes sits alone in third on CU's career-win list, just one behind Jessica Keller for second all-time (37). The senior captain is also third on CU's career shutout list with 24, trailing Keller and Jalen Tompkins (25) at the top.
Nytes has totaled 72 saves this season, good for second in the Big 12. She currently ranks fourth among active goalkeepers with a .395 career shutout percentage.
The honor is the 11th of her career. She secured two Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week awards as a sophomore in 2023.
Quick Turnaround for No. 22 Buffs
BOULDER – The No. 22 Buffaloes have a quick turnaround from Monday's game at BYU as No. 5 Texas Tech comes to Boulder on Thursday.
The short week means that head coach Danny Sanchez has just one day of training to prepare for the first top-5 opponent to play in Boulder since No. 5 UCLA in 2023.
"I think we have to build off the momentum from the weekend," Sanchez explained. "At this time of the year, it's not like the trainings are overly taxing. It's just about preparation for the next opponent. We know Texas Tech's a very good team, but we're excited for the opportunity on Thursday."
A win on Thursday would match the Buffs' highest-ranked win in program history. Currently, CU's 2-1 overtime win at No. 5 Texas A&M (Sept. 24, 2010) stands as the team's only top-5 win.
Colorado has three matches remaining in the regular season, starting with Thursday's match against the Lady Raiders. Texas Tech remains unbeaten at 6-0-2 in Big 12 play and sits three points ahead of CU in the conference standings.
"I think we still have everything to play for," Sanchez added. "That's a good thing at this time of the year. I think it just adds a little extra spice to the match."
The Buffs and Lady Raiders played to a 1-1 draw last season in Lubbock. Ava Priest scored in the 74th minute to bring Colorado back to even. Nytes made seven saves in the contest.
Colorado has 11 wins under its belt against Texas Tech. The Buffs are 11-3-2 all-time against the Lady Raiders. Last season's matchup was the first between the two schools since 2010. CU's last win in the series was a 2-0 result in Boulder in 2009.
"I think with the crowd that we're going to have tomorrow night, the atmosphere will be like an NCAA Tournament game," Sanchez commented. "The difference is there's still plenty of soccer for both of us to play after this. We're excited to be back at home for our last two regular-season matches."
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
