Colorado Continues Play in Provo

The Buffs stay alive after day two of the Regional Championship.

PROVO, Utah – The Colorado Buffalo women's tennis team continued competition at the ITA Mountain Region Championship this Wednesday, keeping Buffs in contention for NCAA qualification.  
 
Starting off the day, first-seeded Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson had their debut doubles match for the the season. The pair continued their regionals reign, extending their career victories to 32.
 
The pair faced Mircheva and Hawkins of UNLV, taking the match, 8-7, with a 7-4 tiebreaker. In the round of 16, they faced Nevada's Boubaker and Janigova, downing the duo 8-4 to advance to Thursday's quarterfinals.
 
Following them into the quarterfinals, Rixt van der Werff and Lera Alexin also captured two wins on the day. Facing Voeks and Tozin of Colorado State, the duo took the match with a dominant 8-3 finish. In the round of 16, the pair finished with an 8-4 victory over Akid and Medora of Utah Tech.
 
Freshmen pair Ikedo and Brotman also captured a win on the day, defeating Kamper and Moore of Utah, 8-5. The duo fell short in the second round to New Mexico's Moon and Pinaieva, in a close 8-7 finale.  
 
 In singles competition, the Buffs went 3-4 in the first round of main draw competition. Pia Rebec, Anya Nelson, and Heidi Crncan will continue onto frontside competition in Thursday's round of 32.
 
In the first match of the day, Rebec captured her win over Wyoming's Violetta Borodina, coming back from a down second set to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Following Rebec, Nelson also came back in dominant fashion to defeat Elen Jantacova of Northern Arizona, after being down 0-6 in the first. Nelson then came back in the final two, 7-5, 6-4, to move forward.
 
The final victory of the day went to Heidi Crncan, continuing her winning-streak from the qualifying draw in Tuesday's competition. Crncan faced Serina Abriola of Wyoming, taking the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Ema Bubalo, Lera Alexin, Rixt van der Werff, and Lani Brotman will fall to consolation competition after a hard fight this Wednesday.
 
Up Next
Regional competition will continue Thursday morning, beginning with doubles quarterfinals and singles round of 32.
