Alexin, Van Der Werff Take Consolation Finals

SAN DIEGO, Ca. & BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – Saturday competition concluded for the Colorado Buffaloes with a consolation finals win in California, and a 5-4 record in Florida.
Rixt Van Der Werff and Lera Alexin finished their run at the ITA Conference Masters Championship this Saturday, going 4-1 on the weekend.
After falling in the opening round, Van Der Werff and Alexin bounced back right away to take four straight wins and extend their record to 11-1.
Opening the morning, the pair faced Guibal Britt and Anikina of Southern Illinois, winning their first set, 6-4, and sweeping the second in quick fashion, 6-0.
The second match of the day came with a battle, going up against familiar Denver opponents, Wikander and Lambert. The duo defeated the Pioneers in a tiebreaker last time they met and kept the momentum going for the match this Saturday, winning 6-3, 1-6, 11-9.
At the Bonita Bay Classic, the Buffs secured two doubles and three singles victories. Lani Brotman and Ema Bubalo picked up a win over Bjork and Maeland, in a quick 6-1 victory.
Willow Gretsch and Heidi Crncan followed, picking up their first win as a pair. Gretsch secured her first career doubles clinch as well, helping lead the pair to a 6-3 final win.
Singles competition came with wins from Pia Rebec, Bubalo, and Nelson, with two in straight sets.
Rebec downed June Bjork, taking the first set, 6-4, and falling short in the second at 2-6. Coming back from the second set loss, Rebec took the tiebreak to finish it, 10-4.
Nelson defeated Ashley Matz in two, taking the first to 7-5. In the second set, Nelson swept Matz with a 6-0 finish.
Bubalo took her match against Africa Burillo Berezak in similar fashion, with a 7-5 first set. In the second, Bubalo completed a near sweep escaping just one point, winning 6-1.

Colorado will finish its fall slate of competition this Sunday, wrapping the Bonita Bay Classic with a dual against North Alabama at 7 a.m. (MT).
