Getting to know the new players throughout the season

SALT LAKE CITY – On Wednesday, the Colorado Buffaloes women's basketball team will take on familiar rival Utah in the first Big 12 meeting between the two schools.

The Buffs have 10 new faces on the team this season, and CUBuffs.com will feature 'Get to Know' spotlights on all 10 players throughout the season.

Next up is graduate transfer Lior Garzon.

What was it like growing up in Israel and playing basketball there?
I think it's obviously very different from here. Sports is not a big deal in Israel, but obviously, we have clubs. It was pretty fun. It was very chill. Nothing super serious. Nobody really figured to do anything crazy with it, but it was fun.

How old were you when you started playing basketball?
I was honestly three years old. I have a picture with a ball since I was so little because my dad used to play basketball. So I always had a ball in my hand.

Why did you start playing basketball?
My dad just taught me how to play, and then I literally fell in love. I was like, 'I'll just keep going.'

Did you play any other sports growing up?
I used to do swimming, and I tried tennis, but I was like, this is too much. I just played around with it, but nothing serious like basketball.

What was it like playing for Israel and the women's European Championship?
Oh my God, it's amazing. I mean, especially because Israel is such a small country, nobody really expects anything from us. So it's just really pride and I was just proud to represent Israel, and especially when we did so well, it just made it sound like so much better.

Why did you choose to play for CU?
Obviously, I knew TK [Taelor Karr] before, because she was the one who talked to me. Honestly, there's a lot of good stuff about the school and the coaches and the people around and that was really, really important for me. And obviously, I want to go to a winning program that really cares about championships, and making it to the tournament. That was really important for me in my last year.

What do you like about living in Colorado?
Oh my God, honestly, everything besides the snow. I don't like the snow, but the view is amazing, and the weather is great. Yesterday was, what, 65? I was like, oh my god, I love it. I just love the people. I literally love everything.

What do you want to do after graduation?
Probably keep playing basketball, or in Europe, maybe back home for a little bit, and then I really want to be a lawyer. So, I want to go to law school.

What do you like to do outside of basketball?
I like to cook. That's my favorite thing. And just hangout with friends, watch TV, chill. I'm a very chill person.

Do you have a favorite food you like to cook?
I like desserts, like chocolate, stuff like brownies, chocolate cake, all the bad stuff.
