PALM DESERT, Calif. — Four University of Colorado men's golfers competed here Tuesday for the second of three days as individuals in the Wyoming's Desert Intercollegiate, with two Buffaloes in the top 20 heading into Wednesday's final 18 holes.

Sophomore Brandon Knight is tied for 11th after following up a first round 4-under par 68 with a 2-under 70 on the 7,305-yard, par-72 Classic Club course design.  He remains in contention for medalist honors, five back of the lead in a logjammed leaderboard.  Through two rounds, he has a team-high 11 birdies (fourth-most in the field, with five on Tuesday) with 20 pars and five bogeys.  He remains under par on all configurations (3-under on the par-5's, 2-under on the par 4's and 1-under on the par-3's.  Starting on No. 16, he was 2-over par after six holes before settling down to make all five of his birdies over the last two-thirds of his day.  The 2-under on the par-4's is sixth-best in the field as well.

Senior Jack Holland is tied for 20th, also with a second subpar score here with a 1-under 71 Tuesday for a 4-under 140 total.  He had five birdies and 10 pars with three bogeys in round two, with his 10 birdies over two days tied for the ninth-most in the 90-man field.  He was 4-under with four holes to play but scored a double bogey on No. 10 and a bogey on No. 12 to fall back a bit.  He is playing the par-5's at 6-under, tied for the best in the field with one other player, as he's birdied six of the eight par-5's through 36 holes.

Freshman Parker Paxton posted a 3-over 75 that has him in at 5-over 147, tying him for 54th.  After bogeying his third hole of the day, he reeled off seven straight pars before his other bogey on the day that pushed him to 2-over, but after scoring a birdie on No. 8, he was back to 1-over.  A double bogey on No. 11 pushed him to 3-over where he remained.  He had a team-high 14 pars wi4h  the one birdie Tuesday.

Senior Tucker Clark is tied for 68th after posting a 2-over, which has him in with a 6-over 150 total through 36 holes.  He had three birdies and 11 pars with three bogeys and a double bogey, and how has six birdies over two days and is playing the par-5 holes his best at 3-under.

"Brandon had a really nice comeback to shoot a couple under head coach Roy Edwards said.  "Dutchy (Holland) looked solid all day and is in good position for tomorrow.  Parker did a lot of good things but just couldn't seem to get it going.  Tucker was pretty similar and he had a good finish with a great birdie on 11, his next to last hole."

Colorado Christian's Sungyeop Cho took over the individual lead after shooting the best second round score – a 6-under 66 – for a 10-under 134 total.  Eighteen players are within five strokes of the lead.

The third and final round is set for Wednesday with a 9 a.m. MST shotgun start.   The Buffs next competition will be in the San Diego Lamkin Invitational in Chula Vista, Calif., March 10-11.
