Fantaski Leads Strong Start for Buffs Throwers at Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational

PUEBLO — Colorado's throwers kicked off the outdoor season in style Friday on the first day of the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational, hosted by CSU Pueblo.
The women's throws team opened the season strong, led by sophomore Alaina Fantaski, who started her campaign with a personal-best throw of 46.37 meters in the javelin, good for the top mark of the day.
In the hammer throw, Amanda Opp recorded a mark of 56.44 meters, while Elena Opp notched a 52.50-meter throw.
On the men's side, Gustavo Alfonso began his outdoor season with a throw of 58.82 meters. Ames Newman threw a personal best in the hammer with a mark of 54.40 meters, and Lucas Williams, just a meter shy of his personal best, opened with a 48.89-meter mark.
Day two of the meet will feature 27 Buffs in action. Field events will begin with the men's shot put, women's discus and women's pole vault, while the women's 10,000-meter run will kick off the track events at 8:30 a.m.
