Fuller Captures CGA Stroke Play Championship
July 16, 2025 | Women's Golf
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – University of Colorado's Carolyn Fuller continued what has been an outstanding summer by capturing medalist honors at the 78th Colorado Golf Association Women's Stroke Play Championship, Wednesday at the Eisenhower Golf Club.
Fuller, a native of Phoenix and a rising junior for the Buffaloes, shot 1-over-par, 217, in winning the Championship Division of the three-day, 54-hole event by two strokes. She clinched the title with a final round of 2-under 70 on Wednesday, the second-best round of the day and one of only four scores in the red for the entire tournament.
Fuller was tied for the lead at 3-over after 36 holes following rounds of 73 on Monday and 74 on Tuesday. She was nearly flawless in the final round with four birdies and just two bogeys. Fuller took the lead for good with the help of back-to-back birdies at the par-4 eighth and par-5 ninth to get to 2-under for the day. She then stayed even on the back nine, rebounding from a bogey on the par-4 14th with a birdie two holes later on the par-5 16th.
Fuller polished off her win by making par on the final two holes, becoming the first CU golfer to win this event.
"I just stayed steady these three days, trying not to get myself worked up or look too far ahead," Fuller said. "I had (CU men's golfer) Hunter Swanson on the bag (as the caddie) and it was nice to have as he's played this course and brings his knowledge to help. Everything was just solid. I was happy to see when I got into trouble or out of position, that I was able to put myself back in position, something I've been trying to work on."
The CGA title adds to Fuller's summer resume. She's less than a week removed from winning the USGA Women's Amateur Qualifier in Phoenix. Fuller tied for 16th at the prestigious Southwestern Amateur at 1-over-par last month and added a top 10 finish at the Irish Women's Amateur Open.
"I'm proud of the fact that the work I've been putting in this last year is transitioning to showing in my results," Fuller said. It's a good feeling to know I'm progressing more and more. I had good momentum from the (Arizona) Amateur, but I didn't want to put a lot of expectations on myself (for the CGA Championship). It felt nice to come out here and play with low expectations, but full intent to put together three rounds of pure focus."
Fuller now turns her attention to the 2025 U.S Women's Amateur Golf Championship to be played Aug. 4-10, at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore. She will be joined at the championship by incoming transfer Maya McVey who advanced through the CGA qualifier on July 9.
ALUMNI SUCCESS: Former Colorado women's golfer Kirsty Hodgkins (2016-20) won the Mid-Amateur Division of the CGA Stroke Play Championship. She shot 9-over, 225, cruising to the title by 10 strokes over Leigh Klasse of Cumberland, Ariz. Former Buff Erin (Kerr) Houtsma (2000-03) placed sixth in the event at 28-over.
