August 04, 2025 | Football

BOULDER — Transfer quarterback Kaidon Salter was named to his first watch list as a Buff on Monday, as the Walter Camp Football Foundation released its list of players to watch for the 2025 Walter Camp Award, given to the National Player of the Year.

Salter, a 6-foot-1 quarterback from Cedar Hill, Texas, is one of 45 players on the watch list and one of 21 quarterbacks included. He is also one of just three Texans to be featured. The list represents players from 37 different institutions and 11 conferences.

Salter transferred to Colorado from Liberty University, where he played four seasons. He totaled 5,887 passing yards and 56 touchdowns, while also rushing for 2,063 yards and 21 touchdowns. His best season came in 2023, his first year as a full-time starter. That season, he passed for 2,876 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushed for 1,089 yards and 12 scores on the ground, leading Liberty to an undefeated season. He recorded 11 games with two or more total touchdowns.

Former Colorado two-way standout and current Jacksonville Jaguar Travis Hunter was the 2024 Walter Camp Award winner.  Hunter was also the first player in history to be named a Walter Camp First-Team All-American on both offense and defense.  Rashaan Salaam also won the Walter Camp Award in 1994.

The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in early November, with three finalists announced in early December. The award, voted on by the 133 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be presented during ESPN's College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.
