Buffs Capture Ram Classic Title
September 23, 2025 | Women's Golf
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado women's golf team brushed off Mother Nature's best shot to claim the 2025 Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic title Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Country Club.
Colorado shot 12-under-par in the event that was shortened to 36 holes after Tuesday's scheduled third round was called off due to heavy rains that began overnight Monday and persisted throughout the day.
Monday's second round was suspended with most teams having two to four holes remaining. Despite a steady downpour, there was just enough time to complete the second round Tuesday morning. The tournament made its way into the third round, but about an hour in, play was suspended again and not too long after that it was called off for good.
In the end Colorado's 11-under first round from Monday stood tall. The Buffaloes finished off a 1-under round Tuesday morning to claim their first team title since the Coeur D'Alene Collegiate in September 2017.
"They just deserve this," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "it's so fun to see their efforts and self-belief pay off, and just to see the joy on their faces and knowing they earned this win, it couldn't be more perfect."
Colorado had three golfers finish in the top 10 and five in the top 20. Junior Maya McVey was Colorado's top golfer, tying for fourth overall at 4-under. She did her heavy lifting on Monday with a 7-under round of 65 and had a share of the first round lead before finishing with a 75 in the second round.
"It was a great week," McVey said. "I'm just proud of this team. We were able to get that win. I didn't know it had been since 2017, but I'm glad to have been part of the team to break that drought."
Freshman Brenna Higgins tied for sixth at 3-under and junior Carolyn Fuller tied for 10th at 1-under. Fuller had the best second round of the field, matching McVey's first round effort with a 7-under 65.
Fuller got off to a rough start on Monday, carding a 78, but she rallied in the second round sitting at 5-under through 15 holes. She had a 12-foot putt for birdie on the par-4 17th when play was halted and was forced to leave it for the next day. Fuller sank that putt Tuesday morning and proceeded to polish off her career-best round with a par on the 18th and another birdie on her final hole at the first.
"I had a lot of come-back motivation," Fuller said. "My first round was really poor, and I just wanted to do everything I possibly could to get all those strokes back as quick as I could. I was also very excited to play (Tuesday) and felt like I could have given it a good run as well."
Playing as an individual, sophomore Ellen O'Shaughnessy tied for 16th at 1-over. Vanessa Ngo finished off her second round with a 74 to tie for 20th overall at 2-over.
Freshman Teemapat Pateetin tied for 32nd overall at 4-over while Ananthi Vivek in her collegiate debut was 65th at 11-over.
"I'm so proud of this group," Fuller said. "Coach Maddie said this is just the beginning for this group and I truly feel this team deserves it more than anyone else. I can't wait to see what snowballs off this, our motivation, hard work to see what happens the rest of the season."
Colorado continues the fall portion of its schedule at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, Oct. 3-5, at the University of Denver Golf Club in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
