Two More Buffs Headed to Milan/Cortina as Hinckfuss, Gaskill Added to Olympic Roster

BOULDER — The University of Colorado Boulder added two more Olympians to its growing list for the 2026 Winter Olympics on Thursday, as current Buff Hugo Hinckfuss earned a spot on Australia's cross-country skiing team and CU student Stacy Gaskill was named to Team USA in snowboarding.

Hinckfuss, a current member of the CU ski team, is taking the semester off to focus on Olympic qualification and will now compete in his second Olympic Games. He previously represented Australia at the 2022 Winter Olympics before enrolling at CU Boulder.

Gaskill, meanwhile, was named to Team USA in snowboarding, also marking her second Olympic appearance after competing in 2022. Her return to the Olympic stage caps an extraordinary comeback after suffering a torn ACL just over a year ago during training at a World Cup event in Italy — an injury that ended her season before it began.

After surgery at the Steadman Clinic and months of rehabilitation, Gaskill has returned to top form to once again earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.

Hinckfuss and Gaskill become the sixth and seventh CU Boulder students confirmed for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Hinckfuss is now the fifth varsity student-athlete from CU to qualify for Milan/Cortina and the second active Buff, joining teammate Jakob Moch, who will compete for Germany in cross-country skiing.

Also confirmed for the 2026 Games from CU Boulder are:
  • Joanne Reid — Biathlon — Team USA
  • Jakob Moch — Cross-Country Skiing — Germany
  • Ryder Sarchett — Alpine Skiing — Team USA
  • Alvar Alev — Cross-Country Skiing — Estonia
  • Svea Irving — Freestyle Skiing — Team USA
With Hinckfuss' qualification, he becomes the 16th member of the CU ski team to compete in multiple Olympic Games. Current and former Buff skiers now account for 45 Olympians with a combined 65 Olympic appearances.

At the campus level, CU Boulder now boasts 62 Winter Olympians with at least 94 total Olympic appearances.

Gaskill becomes the 26th CU Boulder Olympian to compete in multiple Winter Games and the fourth in snowboarding. She is also one of 44 CU Boulder students to represent Team USA at the Winter Olympics, with that group now totaling 73 Olympic appearances.
