Tennis Buffs Set to Begin Big 12 Play
February 25, 2026 | Tennis
BOULDER – Following a weekend sweep, the Colorado Buffaloes tennis team is ready to open Big 12 play on the road, starting with a trip to the Midwest to take on Iowa State and Kansas.
This past weekend, Colorado went 3-0, defeating UNLV, Gonzaga, and Utah Tech, outscoring its opponents 17-4.
"One of our biggest strengths this year is our depth," said head coach Anthony Pham. "We feel really confident with whoever we put in the lineup."
This week, the Buffs will start up conference competition, heading to Iowa State on Friday, followed by a trip to Kansas on Sunday.
"The Big 12 is really competitive," Pham said. "We know every team is good, whether they're ranked or not, and Iowa State and Kansas are both very good teams."
The Cyclones started their season 2-4, picking up back-to-back wins against St. Thomas and UNLV. The Buffs are 29-6 in their series record against Iowa State, and the series ended on a high note for Colorado last season.
The Buffs faced the Cyclones twice in 2025, starting with a 4-3 loss in regular season play last February. In the Buffs' first trip to the Big 12 Championship since 2011, Colorado found a first-round upset over the Cyclones, 4-2, to advance to the second round.
On Sunday, Colorado will head to Lawrence to face Kansas for the 47th time in series history. The Jayhawks sit at 4-5 and will face Texas Tech on Friday to find a tie record before they meet the Buffs.
Kansas holds a 28-18 record over the Buffs, and the last meeting ended in the Jayhawks' favor with a 4-2 win last March. Colorado will look to break their two-match loss streak, with their last win being in 2015 at home, finishing 4-2 over Kansas.
"We're in a good place," Pham said. "The team is competing really well and fighting like crazy, and that's something we want to continue going into this weekend."
Friday's match against Iowa State will begin at 3 p.m. (MT) at the Iowa State Tennis Facility. On Sunday, the Buffs begin play at 1 p.m. against Kansas at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. More information and live results can be found @cubuffstennis.
