Buffaloes Squash Horned Frogs, Colorado Upsets No. 14 TCU, 80-79
February 08, 2026 | Women's Basketball
BOULDER – The Colorado women's basketball team (16-8, 7-5 Big 12) defeated No. 14 TCU (21-4, 9-3 Big 12), 80-79, in CU Events Center on Sunday, Feb. 8.
The Buffaloes had their best first quarter of the season, scoring 28 points, and took an eight-point lead over the Horned Frogs. TCU came back to end the half tied and took a five-point lead by the end of the third quarter. Colorado battled with TCU, but a final and-one free throw from Sr. F Jade Masogayo secured the Buffs' win, 80-79.
"What a resilient group we have here to take a team like that down the stretch, down eight, two separate times," head coach JR Payne said. "Our execution, aggressive mindset, and ability to make big plays. So many people made big plays tonight. Jade [Masogayo] was obviously incredible down the stretch. Logyn [Greer] was incredible. Lots of different people made winning plays tonight, offensively and defensively. I thought the defensive effort from AD [Anaëlle Dutat] was incredible on Donovyn Hunter, having to play for 90 feet most of the game, and Zyanna [Walker] guarding Olivia Miles most of the night. Just great team effort. I'm really, really happy about this one."
Colorado had more bench points (36-7), fast break points (14-11), assists (14-10) and steals (6-5) than TCU. The Buffaloes also had a higher three-point percentage (46%-35%) than the Horned Frogs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first quarter started with a Masogayo layup after a Colorado defensive stand on the opening possession (2-0, CU). Walker hit a triple shortly after, and the Horned Frogs responded with a pair of jumpers (5-4, CU). Jr. G Zyanna Walker then picked off a TCU pass for another layup (7-4, CU). Jr. G Desiree Wooten hit a basket from the top of the key, and Masogayo got her second field goal of the game after the Horned Frogs scored on the other end (11-6, CU). The Black and Gold continued to look down low and Fr. F Logyn Greer got in on the scoring before a TCU field goal and three pointer that took the game to its first media timeout (13-11, CU). Wooten and Greer continued the Buffs' hot shooting start from the floor with three combined three pointers and the Horned Frogs hit back with four points in the paint (22-15, CU). Walker and TCU exchanged buckets, then Wooten hit a pair of free throws (26-17, CU). Wooten drove inside for her twelfth point before the Horned Frogs hit a three pointer to end the first quarter (28-20, CU).
The second quarter began with another Masogayo layup before TCU hit a pair of free throws (30-22, CU). Both teams turned the ball over in consecutive possessions, one which the Horned Frogs took advantage of to cut the lead (30-24, CU). TCU scored in the paint and made two more free throws (30-28, CU). The Horned Frogs went to the line again to make it a tie game (30-30). Colorado ended the 10-0 TCU run via a Wooten driving basket off the bank before Greer reestablished the Buffs' lead with a bucket of her own (34-32, CU). TCU ended the half with a floater from close range, and there was nothing between the teams at the break (34-34).
Colorado opened the second half with a pair of Masogayo free throws after a Horned Frogs three pointer (37-36, TCU). TCU scored at the rim the next two possessions to take their first lead of the night (41-36, TCU). Wooten responded with a three pointer, which was already her third of the game (41-39, TCU). The Horned Frogs dropped in a deep ball on the other end and grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds before making another triple (47-39, TCU). A technical foul called on TCU was capitalized on by two Wooten free throws and a Walker jumper for a four-point possession (47-43, TCU). The Horned Frogs scored on the other end, but Greer hit a three pointer to cut the lead (49-46). Another Masogayo bucket at the rim answered a TCU jumper before the media timeout (51-48, TCU). Both teams traded buckets before a Greer and-one bucket tied the game back up (53-53). Greer made two more free throws, but the Horned Frogs went and got an old-fashioned three-point play of their own (58-55, TCU). Masogayo got in on the and-one party, finishing with contact and made the free throw too (60-58, TCU). After that action, a TCU three pointer and layup was answered by two Masogayo free throws (65-60, TCU). Both teams then traded jumpers inside to end the quarter (67-62, TCU).
The fourth quarter began with Walker drawing an offensive foul from the Horned Frogs, and Masogayo converted from that with a basket on the other end (67-64, TCU). Walker then responded to a TCU three-pointer with a nice drive-in layup (70-66, TCU). The Horned Frogs scored two baskets to build on their lead before Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat fought for an offensive rebound and made a bucket through contact (74-68). So. F Tabitha Betson scored after two stops for Colorado right before the media timeout (74-70, TCU). Masogayo then drew a charge with a great defensive play right after the stoppage, but TCU scored a jumper on their next possession (76-70, TCU). Dutat grabbed an offensive rebound which led to a layup for the Buffs. And a Horned Frog two-minute scoring drought saw the lead cut to two after a Walker basket (76-74, TCU). Masogayo then went to the line and made one out of two free throws, forcing a TCU timeout with just under a minute remaining (76-75, TCU). The Horned Frogs then made one out of two free throws, setting up a nail-biting finale (77-75, TCU). Masogayo went to the line again on the next possession and made both, tying the game without any nerves (77-77). TCU drove inside to regain their lead with five seconds remaining, but Masogayo had the final say. The forward scored sensationally through contact and converted the free throw to give Colorado the lead with two seconds on the clock (80-79, CU). The Horned Frogs missed a fade-away three pointer at the buzzer, giving the Buffs their second ranked win of the season, 80-79 (CU).
