Dynamic Point Guard to Remain a Buff For His Senior Season

Fan favorite Barrington Hargress will return to the University of Colorado men's basketball team for the 2026-27 season, Head Coach Tad Boyle announced today.

Hargress was exceptional in his first season for the Buffs, averaging 14.2 points and 4.5 assists a game, while shooting a team-high 48.5% from behind the arc. He also recorded the best field goal percentage by a guard in the Big 12 with a mark of .531 while also ranking 11th in the nation. He also established himself quickly as a team leader and electrifying playmaker for the Buffaloes, leading CU in minutes with 1,031.

"Barrington is a leader who is crucial to what we do as a team because he makes everyone around him better," said Boyle. "He is a top tier point-guard in the Big 12, the best conference in college basketball, and is the perfect player to build a squad around. He's also a tremendous person and I couldn't be happier to have the opportunity to coach him another year."

"Since arriving in Boulder, Barrington has been an incredibly valuable member of the Buffs family and I'm so happy he's decided to come back for his senior season," said Director of Athletics Fernando Lovo. "Bringing a player of his caliber back demonstrates our commitment to increasing our investment in men's basketball at Colorado and our desire to compete at the highest levels."

The 6-foot junior was also masterful with the ball in hands, leading the Big 12 and ranking 10th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 3.7, which is on pace to eclipse the previous school record of 2.8 set by Billy Houston in 1982-83.

A native of Inglewood, Ca, Hargress transferred to Colorado after spending two seasons with UC-Riverside, where he averaged 16.4 points a game and was an All-Big West Conference First Team selection his sophomore season in 2024-25 after leading the conference and ranking ninth in the nation in scoring at 20.2 points per game.

Hargress and the Buffaloes are currently preparing for a return visit to the College Basketball Crown Tournament in Las Vegas, where they will open with a game against old conference rival Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 1 at 6 p.m. MT.
