Colorado returns from a month on the road to open home Big 12 play.
BOULDER – Splitting the first week of Big 12 play, Colorado tennis is ready to return home to open conference play on the Front Range. The Buffaloes will face Kansas State and No. 28 Oklahoma State, this weekend at the Meadows Club.
This past weekend, Colorado (9-3) went 1-1, with a 4-0 sweep over Iowa State on Friday, followed by a 4-0 sweep by Kansas on Sunday.
"We're excited to be playing at home," head coach Anthony Pham said. "We have two very good teams this week, and the job is still to get out there and compete."
Colorado faces Kansas State (4-4) on Friday, and currently leads their series against the Wildcats, 25-14. The opponents have not faced each other since 2018, in a home matchup for Colorado that resulted in a 4-1 finish, favoring Kansas State.
Colorado found a six-match win streak in the series from 2006 to 2010, and this weekend looks to find their 20th win over the Wildcats as conference opponents.
Kansas State is home of one closely ranked pairing -- sisters Martaa Chogsomjav and Maralgoo Chogsomjav hold the No. 45 ranking in doubles play, notching an 8-2 record so far this season as a pair.
As for Sunday, Colorado has secured nine victories over the 28th-ranked Oklahoma State, who are currently 5-4 overall this season, and holds a 2-0 Big 12 record, defeating West Virginia and Cincinnati this past Friday and Sunday.
The Buffs have secured nine wins in their series against the Cowgirls, all coming from conference matchups. Oklahoma State leads with 24 wins, earning the last two matchups against the Buffs in 2010 and 2011.
Along with a top 25 team ranking, there are three ranked singles for Cowgirls and one ranked doubles pairing. At No. 22 in singles is Rose Marie Nijkamp, followed by Lucia Peyre at No. 51, and Olivia Lincer at No. 53. For doubles, Nijkamp sits at No. 20 with partner Anastasiya Komar.
"We know each match means something," said Pham, "so we have to just go out and compete. We will play the best we can, compete at a high level, and trust our abilities."
