Buffs’ Yahya Attia Returns To Roots At NFL Academy

May 22, 2026 | Football

LONDON — For Yahya Attia, a return to the NFL Academy wasn't just a visit back to where his football journey accelerated.

It was a reminder of how far he has come — and how much farther he hopes the path can stretch for players from Egypt and across the international football landscape.

Now an offensive lineman for the Colorado Buffaloes, Attia returned to the NFL Academy last week while reconnecting with coaches, staff and players at the program that helped launch his college football career.

"Every time I take a break and come home, I have to come back here, too," Attia said in a video shared by the NFL Academy. "This is home too."

For Attia, the academy represented more than a developmental stop. It became a bridge between growing up in Egypt and spending some of his youth in Austria, and major college football in the United States — an opportunity that once felt almost impossible.

After growing up in Egypt, Attia developed into one of the top international offensive line prospects through the NFL Academy program in England before signing with Colorado. Since arriving in Boulder, he has continued developing under Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders and the Buffaloes' coaching staff while carrying the pride of representing his home country and the academy that helped shape him.

"You have to watch international guys and watch them, especially guys from NFL Academy," Attia said. "Playing for the Colorado Buffaloes, developing there, loving it there — it's another way to get closer to my goals, to get everybody on the map, my people back home on the map and the academy on the map."

Attia's journey continues to resonate well beyond Colorado's football facilities. As one of the few Egyptian-born players competing at the Power Four level, his path has become an example for younger international athletes hoping to follow a similar route into American football.

The visit also reinforced the growing global reach of the sport and the role programs like the NFL Academy continue to play in identifying and developing talent from around the world.

For Attia, though, the mission remains personal.

Every snap at Colorado is about more than individual success. It is about opening doors for the next generation watching from Egypt, Austria, the United Kingdom and beyond.
