2017: Indoor: Denton dedicated his indoor season to the weight throw. In February, at the Joe Davies Classic, he had his best throw with a distance at 50-3.5 and he finished third.
Outdoor: Denton found most of his success during this outdoor season in the hammer throw. His best meet came at the Jerry Quiller Classic, where he took first place with a throw of 179-9.75, which was a team best in the hammer throw during the season.

2016: Indoor: Denton concentrated again on the weight throw as a sophomore. He improved his personal best during the season by over four feet with a mark of 48-11.75 at the Air Force Invite, which was 10th at the meet. Denton was an inch shy of that mark in his final meet of the season, the Rocky Mountain Classic, where he threw 48-10.75 for 10th place again.
Outdoor: Denton mainly competed in the hammer during the outdoor season, earning a season best mark of 168-3 at the Tom Benich Invite, placing third overall, which was his best finish of the campaign. Denton’s second best mark of the season was 166-6, which came at the Beach Pacific Coast Invite.

2015: Indoor: Denton focused on the weight throw during his debut campaign with CU and competed at five meets. He launched his season best mark of 44-0.75 at the Rocky Mountain Classic (2/20), which was 10th overall. Â
Outdoor: Denton threw the discus and hammer during the outdoor campaign. He recorded season bests in both events at the CU Invite (4/11). Denton threw the discus 125-2 and tallied a hammer mark of 154-0.

HIGH SCHOOL: Denton is the BHS record holder in the javelin (152-7). While throwing for the Panthers, he earned two letters, but he was also a member of the football and baseball teams. Denton was a member of the BHS orchestra and lettered all four years. Â

IN THE CLASSROOM: Denton is a molecular, cellular and developmental biology major and is minoring in the Classics. He owns a GPA greater than 3.00 heading into his senior season.

PERSONAL: Matthew David Denton was born on February 14, 1996 in Coconut Grove, Fla. He is the son of Roger and Lourdis Denton of Boulder, Colo. and has one brother, Alexander, who is a member of CU’s triathlon team. He enjoys reading and being with animals. Someday he would like to be a veterinarian at a zoo. Denton learned to speak Spanish before English (his mother is from Cuba), and can play the guitar, viola and piano.
