2017 (Senior)—On the opening day of the season he fell ill and had to have an appendectomy. That hampered his season, as he missed the first two meets of the year, but he made a remarkable turnaround to come back and earn All-America honors in both the classical and freestyle races. At the 2017 NCAA Championships, he placed second in the 20K freestyle to earn the seventh first-team All-America honor of his career. He also placed eighth in the 10K classic race, which was his eighth overall All-America honor. He had another podium finish on the season, as he placed second in the 10K classic race at the RMISA Championships to help the Buffs win a 28th RMISA title. In his first meet back one month after his surgery, Stroem placed ninth in the freestyle sprints and helped his mixed gender relay team win at the Seawolf Invitational. He was the recipient of CU’s Most Improved Student-Athlete Awards after raising his grade point average from 3.325 to 3.675 in Business (Finance). At the end of the year CUSPY Awards, he was one of two recipients of CU's Male Career Athletic Achievement Award along with quarterback Sefo Liufau.
2016 (Junior)—Capped off his historic season by claiming both individual NCAA Championships in March, winning both the 10K freestyle and 20K classic races, helping the Buffs to a second-place NCAA finish. He became the first men's Nordic skier in CU history to accomplish an NCAA sweep and just the sixth in CU history in all disciplines to do so. Became the first men's Nordic skier in 11 years and just the sixth in NCAA history from any school to pull off the feat. He was awared the Men's Nordic National Skier of the Year by both FasterSkier and the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA). He was also named the Men's Nordic Skier of the Year by the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA). Was a first-team All-America Nordic selection in both freestyle and classic for a third consecutive season. For a second-straight season he won both the individual RMISA Championships. Won a total of eight races on the season - another CU record for a men’s Nordic skier. Another record he set was the mark for consecutive races won by a men’s Nordic skier, winning his final six races of the season. In total, he was first or second in 10 of his 12 races on the season.
2015 (Sophomore)—A first-team All-America Nordic selection in both freestyle and classical for the second consecutive season, helping Colorado win the men's Nordic title at the NCAA Champinoships (with a second-place finish in the classical race) held at Lake Placid and the overall team NCAA Championship. He swept the RMISA Nordic championships, winning in both disciplines. Garnered All-RMISA first-team accolades, was named the RMISA Skier-of-the-Week once and the CU Athlete-of-the-Week three times. He won four races on the season (two freestyle and two classical) and finished first or second in 10 out of his 12 races on the season. Won his first career classical race at the Alaska Invitational.
2014 (Freshman)—Stroem wasted no time in establishing himself as one of the top collegiate skiers in the nation in 2014. After missing the first two meets competing in the Norwegian National championships in Molde where he place in the top 20 in every race, he hit the podium in his first collegiate race and won his first race in his second outing, both at CU’s Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational. He was third in the classic and won the freestyle race there. At the RMISA Championships, he finished on the podium in both races, taking third place in the classic and freestyle races there. After being disappointed with a fourth place finish in the classic race at NCAA Championships, for which he was still named first-team All-American, he rebounded to win the freestyle national championship, easily pulling away for the race victory in the final race of the season. He earned two first-team All-America honors and was also first-team All-RMISA as a rookie. He earned the CUSPY award for CU’s Freshman Male Athlete of the Year and was CU’s Athlete of the Week for the NCAA Championships and the RMISA Skier of the Week for the RMISA Championships. He won CU’s Buddy Werner Memorial Award, as well. While not finishing high on the men’s Nordic MVP list as a freshman due to missing two meets, he finished third on the men’s Nordic NCAA Qualification list and No. 2 on the NCAA seeding list for freestyle races behind teammate Rune Oedegaard.
Club—Stroem competed with Baerums Verk in Norway. He finished first in Junior Nationals relays twice with the team. He also finished third in the 20K freestyle at Junior Nationals and third in the U23 Norwegian National Championships 15K freestyle. He finished 17th in the Norwegian National Championships in the 15K Classic race and 21st in the Skiathlon (15K both freestyle and classic) in January 2014. He also finished first in the 15K freestyle race in West Yellowstone in a U.S. Super Tour race in November 2013 with many of the top collegiate racers present.
In the Classroom—Stroem is majoring in business finance at Colorado.
