2021: Indoor: Competed three times for the Buffs ... Finished her season winning the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a personal best of 4:30.58.Â

2018: Indoor: Hurta competed three times during her indoor campaign, once in the 800-meter run and twice in the mile. At the Husky Classic in February, she earned eighth place in the 800, clocking in at 2:08.40. She raced in the mile at the MPSF Championships in February and crossed the finish line in 4:41.87 for eleventh place.
Outdoor: Hurta competed in a few events during her 2018 outdoor season, but really focused on the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She took home the Pac-12 Champion title for this event in May, clocking in at 9:57.28. She also earned All-America Honors in the 5,000-meter run when she placed fourth at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 16:31.88. Hurta also competed in two non-collegiate races during her outdoor season. At the Portland Track Classic she raced the 1,500 and earned 13th place with a time of 4:14.72. She also raced in the USATF Championships in the steeplechase semifinals where she placed 18th with a time of 10:08.77.

2017: Indoor: In her freshman campaign, Hurta competed in the 800-meters and the mile. She won her only 800, finishing in 2:07.32 at the Colorado Open (2/3). She ran the mile three different times, recording a PR time of 4:39.39 at the Husky Classic (2/11). Hurta was also a member of the distance medley relay team during the season, running the 800-meter leg. The relay set the school record (10:58.68) as they raced to first place at the MPSF Championships, before becoming the NCAA Champions two weeks later.
Outdoor: During the outdoor season, Hurta turned her attention to the 3,000-meter. She recorded her personal best at the Pac-12 Championships, where she placed second to her teammate, Madie Boremen. Hurta finished in 10:07.87, which put her eighth on CU’s all time performers list. She advanced to the NCAA Championship after a 10th place finish in the NCAA West Preliminary Round. Â

CROSS COUNTRY:
(2019) Became just the second-ever CU woman to finish as a four-time cross country All-American after finishing 38th ... Was 11th at the Pac-12 Championships and 9th at regionals ... Was third at Pre-Nats.
(2018) Hurta helped CU to its third National Championship with a 22nd place finish for her third-straight All-American honor. She was the fourth finisher for the Buffs.
(2017) Hurta had another great season for this Buffs as a sophomore. She started the campaign off racing unattached at the Colorado State Invitational, finishing seventh overall. Then, at the Joe Piane Invitational, Hurta finished 10th as CU’s No. 4 harrier, which helped the Buffs to a first place team finish. At NCAA Pre-Nationals, she was the second Buff to cross the finish, placing 17th overall as CU finished second as a team. Hurta recorded a ninth-place individual finish at the Pac-12 Championships, helping the Buffs win their third straight title and recorded All-Pac-12 Second Team honors in the process. In the next two meets, Hurta was CU’s No. 2 runner. She was 12th at regionals to earn her first all-region recognition, and at NCAAs, she finished 35th overall to record her second straight All-America honor as she helped the Buffs place third for the second consecutive season.
(2016) Hurta earned a spot on the varsity roster as a true freshman. After running a pair of races unattached, she entered the CU line-up at NCAA Pre-Nationals where she recorded a 36th place finish and her first points for the Buffs as their fifth runner. Hurtz was also CU’s No. 5 runner at the Pac-12 Championships where she was 15th overall and helped CU to its second straight team title. She served as the team’s alternate at regionals, but was back in the line-up at nationals where she recorded her first All-American honor with a 40th place finish while CU took third in the team race. HIGH SCHOOL: Hurta is a three-time New York State Cross Country Champion, winning the title as a senior, junior and in seventh grade, becoming the only seventh grader to ever win the title. As a senior, Hurta also placed 10th at Foot Locker Nationals in 2015. She earned six letters on the cross country team and six on the track team at Hamilton Central. On the track, Hurta won four New York State Division 2 Championships. She recorded a pair of titles as a senior, winning the 800 and 1,500. As a junior, she was the 800 champion and won the 1,500 for the first time as a sophomore. Hurta owns school records in the 200, 400, 800, 1,500, 3,000 and 2,000-meter steeplechase and is a part of the school’s record setting 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and sprint medley relay teams. She also owns conference records in the 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000, as well as New York Section 3 records in the 1,500 (indoor), mile (indoor) and 800 (outdoor). As a senior, she placed seventh in the mile at New Balance Indoor Nationals and was second in the 800 at New Balance Outdoor Nationals. Academically, Hurta was named a National Merit Scholarship Recipient and was the class valedictorian. Before committing to Colorado, she was also recruited by Yale, Virginia, Princeton and Brown.

IN THE CLASSROOM: Hurta is majoring in chemical and biological engineering, as well as applied mathematics. She has an impressive 3.951 GPA.

PERSONAL: Sage Alexandra Hurta was born on June 23, 1998 in Buffalo, N.Y. She is the daughter of Gary and Amy Hurta of Hamilton, N.Y. Her mother ran cross country and track at Cornell, and her father was also on the track team at Cornell.
