A huge academic success, he was a member of the 4.0 club three times and on the National All-Academic Ski Team and Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll three time, as well. He qualified for the NCAA Championships all three years and participated twice there for the Buffaloes.
2023 (Senior)—Haugan finished out his CU career by finishing all 10 races he competed in for the Buffaloes, missing the RMISA Qualifier races at the US National Championships and the Montana State Invitational early in the season. He came out of the gate strong at the CU Invitational taking 12th in the 20K classic race and seventh in the 10K freestyle, his best performance in both disciplines for the season. He took ninth in the 10K freestyle race at the RMISA Champoionships and was 19th and 25th at the NCAA Championships in the 10K freestyle and 20K classic races, respectively. He also participated in the World University Games in January in Lake Placid and got the job done in the classroom, as well, earning a third 4.0 Club from CU while being named to the National Collegaite All-Academic Ski Team, the Pac-12 Acadmic Honor Roll and the CSC Academic All-District At-Large team.
2022 (Sophomore)—Haugan had a bit of a slow start to his sophomore season, finishing just one of the first five races of the season in January, but once February hit, he got back in the groove and improved in every race thorugh the end of the season. In Alaska in three races, he finished 22nd, then 19th and then 14th and then had his two best finishes to close out his season at the RMISA Championships, taking 11th in the 10K classic and ninth in the 20K freestyle races in Steamboat Springs. He earned his second letter, qualified for the NCAA Championships and was stellar in the classroom, earning mention on the National All-Academic Ski Team, the Pac-12 Acadmic Honor Roll and CU’s 4.0 Club each for the second straight year.
2021 (Freshman)—Haugan immediately established himself as one of the top collegiate skiers, hitting the podium in his first college race, the 7.5K freestyle race at Maloit Park as part of the DU Invitational, and taking sixth the next day in the classic race. He finished that season picking up two second-team All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. He finished his freshman season with each of his 10 finishes in the top 11, including six top five performances and one podium. At the CU Invitational, he had a pair of top five finishes, taking fourth in the freestyle sprints and fifth in the classic race, and then matched both of those marks at the RMISA Invitational at Solider Hollow ahead of the RMISA Championships, where he finished 11th in classic and fourth in freestyle. At the NCAA Championships he took sixth in the freestyle and eighth in the classic, earning second-team All-America honors in both disciplines. He was named second-team All-RMISA at the conclusion of the season. He also earned mention on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and was a finalist for the CU Male Freshman of the Year across all sports.
