CAREER UPDATE: Von Hagen became the fourth Buff to record more than 5,000 points in the heptathlon and ranks sixth overall with 5,083 points. Von Hagen became the first Buff to throw the shot put further than 40 feet in the heptathlon when he launched a toss of 40-04 on Feb. 26, 2010 at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. In CU indoor combined events history, he also ranks second in the high jump (6-06.75) and the long jump (22-11), is third in the 1,000 (2:38.62) and ninth in the 60 (7.29) and the pole vault (14-03.25). Von Hagen's name is also all over the decathlon record book. He recorded the best throw in the javelin after a toss of 188-06 at the Big 12 meet in 2010. Von Hagen's throw also made him the sixth best performer in the event all-time at CU. He is also sixth in the 1,500 (4:26.83), seventh in the long jump (22-08) and the high jump (6-06.25) and ranks 10th in the discus (119-09).
2011: Indoor: Von Hagen competed in three meets for the Buffs. He had a second-place finish at the Potts Invite with 4,996 points, tied for 13th at the New Mexico Classic (4,538) and was 11th at the Big 12 Championships (5,022). At the New Mexico Classic he cleared a height of 6-06.75, the second best in CU combined events history. The mark also tied for second at the meet. He also PR'd in the 60 (7.33) and the long jump (22-02.50). His long jump was the third best in CU history.
Outdoor: Von Hagen had a successful outdoor campaign as well. He competed in three meets, winning the Glenn Morris Combined Events with 6,667 points. He recorded a personal best with 6,724 points at the Jim Click Invite and placed sixth. Von Hagen was 11th at the Big 12 Championships with 6,506 points. He recorded the seventh best long jump in CU history at 22-08 at the Jim Click Invite, placing second overall. Von Hagen's high jump of 6-05.50 at the same meet tied for eighth all-time. He recorded a time of 4:28.89 in the 1,500 which ranks ninth overall.
2010: Indoor: Von Hagen won the heptathlon at the Potts Indoor Invite (1/22-23) with 4,995 points. He became the fourth Buff to ever record more than 5,000 points in the heptathlon at the New Mexico Classic (2/5-6). He earned 5,042 points and placed fifth overall. Von Hagen recorded season-bests at the NMC in the long jump (22-02.25) and the high jump (6-04.75). Von Hagen was just out of scoring position for CU at the Big 12 Championship when he placed ninth. He recorded a PR of 5,083 points. He became the first Buff heptathlete to throw the shot put over 40 feet, recording a toss of 40-04.00. In the final event, the 1,000, he finished in 2:38.62 for the third fastest time in CU combined event history.
Outdoor: Von Hagen had a great outdoor campaign, starting at the Jim Click meet (4/1-2). He finished 13th overall, but recorded PR's in the long jump (21-10) and shot put (37-02.25). Von Hagen competed in the javelin at the Fum McGraw Open (5/8) and notched a huge PR at 182-02 for second place. One week later, Von Hagen earned his first points for the Buffs at the Big 12 Championship. He recorded 6,143 points for eighth place, despite missing his three attempts at the pole vault. Part of Von Hagen's success was winning the 1,500 in 4:26.83 (his teammates were second and third). He also received big points in the javelin, as he recorded a toss of 188-06. It was the farthest throw ever by a combined event Buff, and the throw also made him the sixth best performer ever in the event at CU.
2009: Indoor: Von Hagen competed in three heptathlons, Potts Invite (1/23-24), Air Force Duals (1/30-31) and at the Big 12 Championship (2/27-28). Von Hagen's point total of 4,967 points is the third best in school history. He placed 14th overall at the championship, but Von Hagen recorded PRs in six of the seven events. The only event he didn't PR in was the high jump.
Outdoor: During the outdoor season Von Hagen participated in two decathlons. His best performance was at the Cal State Northridge Spring Break Open with 6,584 points. Von Hagen recorded personal bests in six of the 10 events, including the 100, shot put, 400, discus, pole vault and javelin. His toss of 161-04 in the javelin ranks 10th all-time for combined event athletes. Von Hagen recorded a pair of PRs at the California Invite in the high jump and 1,400. His jump of 6-6.25 is seventh all-time and his time of 4:38.28 is 14th all-time.
2008: Indoor: Von Hagen recorded a PR and took first place in his first meet at CU with 4,784 points. At the Big 12 Championship, he recorded 4,893 points for 15th. He ran his fastest 1,000-meter run with a mark of 2:46.21 and took sixth in that race. Von Hagen earned first place finishes in the long and high jumps at the Potts Invite.
Outdoor: Redshirt. Did not compete.
HIGH SCHOOL: Von Hagen placed third at the 2007 AAU Junior Olympics and ranked seventh overall in the nation in the decathlon. He scored a personal record of 6,565 at the AAU Championships. Von Hagen won the 2007 Colorado State Championship in the long jump. He is a five-time All-Colorado jumper, three times in the high jump and two in the long jump. Von Hagen owns LHS records in the 400, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, high jump (which he shares with current CU teammate Ryan Dresen), long jump, javelin, Pentathlon and Decathlon. He lists his biggest moment of his high school career as winning the 5A state championship in the long jump as a senior. Von Hagen earned four letters in track at Legacy High School. He also earned two in football and one in cross country. He was the track team captain his senior season and won the MOMTAA (Most Outstanding Male Track Athlete Award) three times at LHS.

ACADEMICS: Von Hagen graduated with a degree in sociology and was a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
PERSONAL: Alex Von Hagen was born on March 7, 1989 in Thornton, Colo. He is the son of Luke and Pam Von Hagen. He has an older sister, Laura, who was an all-state pitcher while at Legacy High School. Von Hagen's hobbies include running, working out, hanging out with friends and listening to music.
