2007 OUTLOOK: Ryan dominated in the weight room this fall, and we should expect to see many new pr’s from him both indoor and out.
2006: Willis did not throw during the indoor season. During the outdoor campaign, he mainly threw the hammer and shot put. Willis recorded a pr of 167-11.00 in the hammer at the Ris Western/Air Force Twilight and placed third. At the Big 12 Championship, he took 16th overall with a throw of 156-02.00. Willis also recorded a pr in the shot put at the Don Kirby Memorial Invite (50-03.25) and took sixth overall. Willis threw the discus once, for a distance of 140-05 at the Potts Invite and placed seventh overall.
2005: Willis competed in the shot put and weight throw during the indoor season. His best shot put of the season was a 51-1.50 toss, only seven inches off of his personal record, at the Colorado Open to earn sixth-place. His best hammer throw was 50-00 at the Air Force Classic to land in 11th-place. During the outdoor season Willis only competed in one hammer throw, a personal record toss of 164-11 for fourth-place at the Potts Invitational.
2004: During the indoor season, Willis won the shot put at the Colorado Invitational with a throw of 51-08.50. Outdoors, he had a personal best in the shot put with a 49-10.50, as he finished sixth at the Jack Christensen Invite. He also threw the hammer, finishing 20th at the Arizona State Invitational.
2003: Indoors, he owned the top three scores on the team in the shot put, including a season-best 47-09.25 at the Air Force Invite. During the outdoor campaign, Willis bested his shot put mark with a 49-10.00 in a fifth-place finish at the CU Twilight meet. He also finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the javelin throw at the Pepsi Team Invite (90-3) and CU Twilight (78-7).
HIGH SCHOOL: Willis was a member of the Marquette University High track team that won the 2000 state and conference championships. He was a second-team all-conference selection for his performance in the indoor and outdoor track seasons his senior year. His long shot put was 55-00.50. Willis also played varsity football for two years.
ACADEMICS: Willis is a finance major in the Leeds School of Business. He has been named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll following five semesters.
PERSONAL: Ryan Nelson Willis was born on June 30, 1984 in
