Endowments
To provide funding for future Buffs, endowments are essential.
The opportunity to fully endow a student-athlete scholarship exists
for all sports programs. An endowment gift is a gift in which a
portion of the income is reinvested each year, enabling the
endowment to grow and provide a permanent stream of income over
time.
Currently, the CU Athletic Department has 58 endowments that
support a variety of programs ranging from the buffalo mascot
Ralphie, to scholarships for our 300+ student-athletes.
Our Athletic Endowment funds are permanent funds that are
invested and managed by the University of Colorado Foundation. A
portion of the annual interest income generated is used to carry
out the donorGÇÖs designated purpose (ie. scholarships, support for
individual sports or unrestricted support). Income earned in excess
of the annual amount spent is added back into the endowment
principal so that it continues to grow and maintain purchasing
power for future generations.
There are several methods a donor may choose to establish an
endowment fund. Gifts of cash, stocks, and planned gifts such as
charitable trusts and bequests are all common ways to fund an
endowment. Charitable annuities, real estate gifts and life
insurance are other forms of giving. These types of gifts may
reduce taxes due on income, capital gains and estate
settlements.
Planned
Giving
Income producing gifts There are several
ways you can make a substantial gift to CU Athletics while you
retain, or even increase your annual income. By investing your gift
in a charitable remainder trust, pooling income fund, or as a
charitable gift annuity, you can diversify your investment
holdings, reduce your taxes, and possibly increase your income.
When appreciated property is given, you can also avoid capital
gains tax. If you are interested in making an income-producing
gift, please contact us here at the Buff Club, 303-492-2200.
Gift of Real Estate Your property can
become a generous investment in the future of the University of
Colorado. A real estate gift may provide significant tax relief
while freeing you from the demands of property management. You may
also be able to increase your annual income or retain the right to
use the property for the remainder of your life.
