2008 OUTLOOK: Candice hopes to return to her previous middle distance form this year.
2007: Alai competed in the 1,500-meter run during the outdoor season. She placed 15th at the Jack Christiansen Invite, coming in with a time of 5:10.92, and seventh at the Potts invitational at 5:09.30 for a personal record.
CROSS COUNTRY: Candace competed in three races in 2007 as a member of the ?B’ team. Her best finish of the season came at the Air Force Invite when she placed sixth overall and was CU’s No. 3 racer. She was also CU’s No. 3 at the Fort Hays Invite where she placed 20th overall.
HIGH SCHOOL: Alai ran cross country and track & field in high school. As a senior, she was a CIF finalist on the track team. Alai was also a CIF/State qualifier in cross country. Alai placed second in the league in the mile as a sophomore and junior and was third as a freshman. She also qualified in the conference for track and cross country.
ACADEMICS: Alai is an open major at Colorado. She is also interested in pre-medicine. Alai was a scholar athlete her freshman through senior seasons.
PERSONAL: Candace Y. Alai was born in Anaheim, Calif. Her parents are Paniz and Goli Alai of Huntington Beach, Calif. She has an older brother Kevin and a twin sister Nicole. Alai played soccer for 10 years before deciding to concentrate on running.
