Benjamin Collado serves as a Student Athlete-Academic Support Services Intern in the Herbst Academic Center. Collado's daily responsibilities include serving as an academic mentor and providing support/assistance to the HAC tutoring program and PASS Center.
On August 5, 2022, Collado earned his bachelor's degree in Africana studies (with a concentration in education and history) from Oberlin College. His undergraduate research and senior thesis revolved around labor rights in college athletics and closing academic outcome gaps for Black student-athletes in revenue-generating sports at Power 5 schools. In his time at Oberlin, Collado lettered in football, served as the chair of the Black student union, was a founding member of the college's Black Student-Athlete Group, and worked in student government.
Before moving to Boulder, he served as a social studies teacher with the Aspire Program at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio. In the summer of 2021, he taught 8th-grade Earth Science and a Black history course with the REACH program at University School in Solon, Ohio. In the summer of 2020, Collado oversaw an HBCU graduate recruitment project as a human resources intern with Promoveo Health in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Born in Maineville, Ohio, where he graduated from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, his hobbies include fishing and stand-up comedy. Collado is a third-generation Cuban immigrant and the son of Rolando and Jennifer Collado.
