SENIOR (2019): Castillo wrapped up her collegiate career with 19 goals and eight assists for 27 points, which was fifth on the team. She started in all 19 games and scored at least one point in 14 contests. On March 17, Castillo recorded a season-best three goals against Arizona State. On five other occasions, she tallied two goals for the Buffs. She was also a spark on defense, posting eight caused turnovers, which included a career-best three against Oregon (3/23). An excellent student, Castillo was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention team and was selected to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.

JUNIOR (2018): Castillo had a breakout season for the Buffs as an attacker, recording 26 goals and 15 assists for 41 points, which was fifth on the team. She started in 19 of the 20 games, scoring three or more goals in four of those games. She also had three games where she had multi assists. In the first game of the season, a 20-10 win against Michigan (2/9), Castillo recorded a career-high two caused turnovers. In the following game against No. 5 Florida (2/11), she scored her first goal of the season. She continued to improve as the season went on and had eight games with two or more goals. Castillo recorded a career-high four goals against California (April 15) and added one assist for five points. She was named to the Pac-12 All-Tournament Team after scoring a career-best six points in CU’s semi-final win over Oregon (April 27) with three goals and three assists.

SOPHOMORE (2017): Castillo played in seven games during the season and recorded five goals and two assists. The sophomore contributed three goals and two assists in the 22-3 win against Stetson on Feb. 19 and put up another two goals in the win over Saint Mary’s on March 21. Castillo scored on two out of three free-position shots and placed seven out of 12 shots on goal.

FRESHMAN (2016): Castillo enjoyed a solid freshman season, appearing in 14 of the team’s 18 games and starting twice as an attacker. She scored 10 goals and had two assists for 12 points, while attempting 24 shots, including 17 on goal. Castillo also had eight ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control. She started the first game of her career, an 11-10 win at Denver, and helped the Buffs to the one-goal victory with two goals and five shot attempts. She backed that up with a goal, two assists and a season-high four ground balls in an 18-4 win at Fresno State the following game, the second start of her career on Feb. 21. She had a single goal in three straight games against Central Connecticut, Marist and UC Davis—all wins. Castillo had back-to-back two-goal games in April. She scored twice in a 16-3 win over San Diego State on April 10 and then had two more in a 23-0 win over Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on April 15, while attempting a season-high six shots.
HIGH SCHOOL: Castillo earned four letters on her lacrosse team at Parkland High School in Allentown, Pa., tallying 271 career goals and 114 career assists. She was named league MVP and Morning Call Player of the Year her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Castillo played on the 2014 League and District Champion teams and the 2015 League Champion team and holds the record for most goals and assists in the district. In addition to lacrosse, she played basketball as a shooting guard.

PERSONAL: Sophie Dominique Castillo was born in Charlotte, N.C., on October 3, 1996, to parents Dan and Michelle Castillo. Castillo loves snowboarding and Chinese food. Her favorite athlete is Alex Morgan of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team. Her grandfather, Fabio Castillo, played on Colombia’s national soccer team. After graduation, Castillo hopes to become a sports broadcaster.
