Honors
2025 (Sophomore)—After a stellar freshman campaign, Wahlqvist was better as a sophomore, although he came up just short of his two biggest accomplishments from his freshman season when he took home Individual NCAA and RMISA titles. He put together the first perfect slalom regular season in CU history, winning all five slalom races in the regular season, setting a new record for most consecutive wins along the way. He had his only DNF in the slalom racea the RMISA Championships but responded with a second place finish at the NCAA Championships, missing out defending his individual NCAA Championship by just three-hundredths of a second. In all, he was 169-1 against the field in slalom races. His lowest finish was 10th place and he also had four top five finishes in GS races on the season, including one podium, taking third at the NCAA Championships to pick up two first-team All-America honors there. In the GS race he was just 31-hundredths behind the leader, meaning he was just about a third of a second away from two individual titles. In all he finished 13 of 14 races all in the top 10 with 10 top five and seven podium appearances to go along with his five slalom wins. He was named a finalist for the second-straight year for the CU Male Athlete of the Year, just behind Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, and was named the Colorado Ski & Snowboard College Skier of the Year. He picked up two first-team All-America honors, first-team All-RMSIA honors, was a repeat winner of the RMISA Slalom MVP honor, the RMISA Skier of the Meet for the DU Invitational and won multiple CU Athlete of the Week honors, as well. He was also named the team’s MVP and given the Dick Schoenberger Memorial Award.
2024 (Freshman)—Wahlqvist made no delay in proving he was one of the best skiers in the nation, as he won his first two college races, took home four wins on the season, and didn’t finish any race lower than 12th place. He finished 13 of 14 races on the season with 12 top 10 and 10 top five finishes, including seven podiums and four race wins. In his six slalom finishes, he had four wins, a second, and a fifth-place finish, and in his seven GS races, he hit the podium twice, and had four top 5 and six top 10 finishes. He won two slalom races out of the gate, the first part of the Westminster Invitational and the second part of the Utah Invite. He then continued his podium streak with a third-place finish in the first GS race of the season at Westminster. After his only DNF, which came in the slalom race at the CU Invitational, he responded with six top five finishes in the final seven races which included a second place slalom finish at the DU Invitational, a season-best second place GS finish in the Qualifier race ahead of the RMISA Championship, then an RMISA Individual Championship in slalom followed by an NCAA Individual Championship, a key moment in the Buffs run for the national championship. On top of being an Individual NCAA Champion and two-time All-American with one first-team honor, he was also named first-team All-RMISA and the RMISA Slalom MVP. He was a finalist for the Male Athlete of the Year and won the CUSPY for the Male Freshman of the Year. He was named the CU Athlete of the Week multiple times and named the CU Academic Student of the Month, as well.
