2025 (Senior)—Fleckenstein, in her fifth college season, had on paper what looked to be her first normal season, and that in and of itself is a masterful success story. Riddled by injuries and after finishing the final season of the 2024 season after over two years off, she then waited another 10 months for her final college season to unfold. She finished nine of 12 races with six in the top 20 and one top 10 performance. Her top 10 came at the Utah Invitational in women’s slalom when she took eighth place. Proving her abilities further, she twice had the fastest second run in the field, in the first race of the season in an RMISA Qualifier race ahead of the DU Invitational, and then again mid-season at the MSU Invitational in a slalom race. Her honors included being a finalist for the CUSPY for the Spencer Nelson Buffalo Spirit Award, and she was named to CU’s 4.0 Club and to the National All-Academic Ski Team.
2024 (Junior)—Fleckenstein recorded just one result in 2024, but it was huge. In taking 29th place in the final race of the season, the women’s slalom race at the NCAA Championships, she hit the start gate for the first time in over two years, 766 days to be exact, since last collegeiate result at the start of the 2022 season. Her honors including being given the team’s Laura Sharpe Flood Award and ever the academic success, she was named to the National All-Acadmic Ski Team and the Pac-12 Winter Honor Roll.
2023 (Sophomore)—Fleckenstein did not race in 2023. She earned mention on the National All-Academic Ski Team and the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll for continuing to get it done in the classroom.
2022 (Redshirt Freshman)—Fleckenstein saw her first collegiate action, participating in four races in January before missing the rest of the season. She finished one of those four races, finishing 18th in the slalom race at the Montana State Invitational at Bridger Bowl. She was named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team and The Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll for the second straight season.
2021 (Freshman)—Fleckenstein did not race. She was named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team and was named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll while also earning mention in the 4.0 club for the Fall 2020 semester.
Prior To CU—Fleckenstein skied for Whistler Mountain Ski Club, the Green Mountain Valley School and Team X Alpine. She had 25 starts on the Nor-Am Cup from 2017-20, finishing 16 of those races with seven top 20 performances with her best results coming at Kimberely in 2018 when she finished 15th in a Super G, 17th in GS and 17th in Alpine Combined. Her best slalom finish on the Nor-Am circuit is a 16th place finish at Whiteface Mountain in 2018. She participated in the Canadian National Championships in 2016 and ‘18 and in seven starts, she has six top 20, three top 10 and one podium. She finished third in the downhill in 2016 in Whistler, when she also finished ninth in alpine combined, 12th in Super G, 19th in slalom and 25th in GS. In 2018, she took seventh in GS and 11th in slalom. Her first FIS was in Nakiska in 2015 where she won her first FIS race, a downhill, and followed that up with a second place showing in another downhill the following day. In FIS races, she has 38 top 10 finishes with 14 podium appearances including five wins, five runner-ups and four third place finishes.
High School—Fleckenstein graduated from Rockridge Secondary in West Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2017.
In The Classroom—She is majoring in both Neuroscience and Psychology at Colorado while earning a minor in Creative Technology and Design.. At Rockridge Secondary, she was given Honors with Distinction from 2013-15 and Honors in 2017. She has earned mention on the National All-Academic Ski Team and the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll for both the 2021 and ‘22 seasons.
Personal—Katie Fleckenstein was born July 22, 1999, in North Vancouver, Canada. Her parents are Steve and Sheryl Fleckenstein. She has one older sister, Katie, a junior on the CU Ski Team. Her dad was an Olympic sailor and her mom was a professional mountain biker. She wants to study Psychology because she’s interested in all aspects of the brain after suffering a traumatic brain injury a couple of years ago. She’d like to work with athletes either training or being a team psychologist once she retires from racing full time. She enjoys biking, hiking, painting, beading, playing the ukulele (she can play Iron Man by Black Sabbath) and exploring. She has volunteered at Whistler Mountain Ski Club when she was out with injuries in the 2016-17 and 2018-19 seasons.
