This Season ? “A Colorado native in her last year of competition, Mia continues to improve every year and I think Mia has saved her best for last.  There is a very good possibility that she will surprise a lot of people this season.”

2007 ? In her junior campaign, Gaw showed solid improvement, placing in the top-20 in all but one race, including one top-10 finish in the 15K classical at Montana State.  Her best effort in the freestyle discipline also came at MSU when she took 11th in the 5K freestyle.

2006 ? Gaw had a solid second year at Colorado, besting her finishes from her first year at CU.  In 10 races, she was in the top 20 on three different occasions.  Her best meet of the year came at Western State where she was 15th in the 5k classical race and followed that up with a 14th place finish in the 5k freestyle.

2005 ? In just a pair of races, Gaw had matching 36th place finishes in both the classical and freestyle races at the Utah Invitational.

High School ? A three-sport athlete, and captain, at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School, Gaw was an all-state skier as a senior, finishing seventh in the state championships.  She also ran cross country and her kayak teams were three-time Colorado state champions from 2000-03.

Club ? Gaw skied for the Rocky Mountain Division in 2003.

2003-04 (St. Olaf) ? Gaw skied just one season for St. Olaf College (Northfield, Mich.) of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Oles’ No. 2 skier took a pair of top-20 finishes home in the St. Cloud Invitational, finishing 15th in the skate and 17th in the classic.  In the MIAC Championships she improved to an eighth place freestyle finish, and a runner-up effort in the classical race, finishing less than a second off the winning pace. She would repeat both efforts a week later at the NCAA Central Region Championships where she finished second in the classic race, trailing teammate Mary Krusen by less than a second before an eighth place finish in the skate.

In the Classroom ? A Spanish and integrated physiology major, Gaw would like to pursue a career in the sports medicine field after college.  Gaw was named to the 2007 NCAA Skiing All-Academic Team.

Personal ? Born Jan. 18, 1985 in Carbondale, Colo., Mia Elise Gaw is the daughter of Jim and Khara Gaw.  Her older brother, Caleb, skied at the United States Air Force Academy.  She is currently a member of the Boulder Road Runners.
