2003?Fischer opened the season with a 21st place GS showing and 15th a day later in the slalom at the Montana State Invitational before being DQ’d in her next three races. She returned to form, and a 19th place slalom finish, at CU’s Invitational at the end of January before finishing 20th and 24th in the slalom and 17th and 24th in the GS at the Western State and NCAA West Regional Championships, respectively.
High School?Fischer moved from Alaska to Utah where she prepped in Salt Lake City as a member of the Rowland Hall St. Mark’s alpine team where she was the team captain in 1999 and recipient of the senior award in 2000.
Other? She was the 1998 Junior Olympic bronze medallist in the slalom and the Intermountain downhill and overall champion a year later. She was a member of the Park City Ski Team from 2000-02 and during that time was the Western Region Kyle Warren Trophy downhill champion (2001), competed in South America Cup speed events (2000-01), Europa Cup (2002) and the Nor-Am circuit (2000-02). She competed in three U.S. National Alpine Championships from 2000-02 with her best result being an eighth place combined finish at the 2001 U.S. National Alpine Championships.
Academics? A 2000 Rowland Hall St. Mark’s graduate, Fischer is a pre-journalism major at Colorado.
Personal? Sarah Elizabeth Fischer was born May 10, 1981 in Juneau, Alaska where her parents, Scott and Betsy Fischer, reside. She has been skiing since the age of 2, and has been racing since five.
