2005 Outlook: Mullen has developed into a standout competitor who will help lead the throwers this season. He has just one season of outdoor eligibility remaining, which will work to his benefit in the hammer throw. Throws coach Casey Malone is excited to see what Mullen can do with his focus solely on outdoor field competition, and if he does what he’s capable of, he will impact the conference championships and possibly the NCAA Championships.

2004: He recorded a personal-best 57-02.75 mark in the weight throw en route to a sixth-place finish at the Air Force Classic.

2003: In the indoor weight throw, he recorded his top distance of 53-0.25 at the Big 12 Championships, a mark good enough for 15th place. During the outdoor campaign, Mullen grabbed the top seven hammer throws on the team. His season-best mark of 196-7 earned him a second place finish at the Tom Bench Classic, as he also claimed third place at the Big 12 Championships (191-2) and seventh at the NCAA Regionals (193-0).

2002: Mullen competed in the indoor weight throw with his top distance of 52-7.25 giving him a seventh-place finish at the Big 12 Championships. His best event of the outdoor season was the hammer throw where he won three second-place finishes and one third-place finish. His top throw came at the Jack Christensen Invitational (183-5) as he went on to win second place honors. A distance of 158-11 gave him 10th place at the Big 12 Championships. He also threw the discus.

High School: Mullen threw discus at Lyons Academy in Lyons, Colo. He was a state qualifier as a sophomore, finished fourth in state as a junior, and fifth as a senior. He lettered all four years.

Academics: Mullen is an architecture planning major that has spent three fall semesters and one spring on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  He was a 2003 second-team Academic All-Big 12 performer.

Personal: Chase Mathew Mullen was born September 18, 1981 in Williston, N.D. Mullen was student body president and assistant yearbook editor in high school. He is an aspiring architect and would someday like to compete in the Olympics.
