2008 OUTLOOK: Chelsea will compete in the pentathlon and heptathlon this year after previously competing for the Buffaloes as a sprinter and long jumper.  Chelsea is working hard to learn the high jump, hurdles, shot put and javelin for the upcoming season.

2007: Haverty had strong indoor and outdoor seasons in the long jump, triple jump, 200 and 400-meter races. After mainly competing in the long and triple jump events, Haverty also began competing in the sprinting events where she seemed to be a natural. During the indoor season she had a strong showing at the Potts Indoor Invite where she took second in both the long and triple jump events and jumped to personal records of 18-05.75 in the long jump and 37-00.50 in the triple jump. At the Air Force Invite Haverty ran the 200 in addition to her jumping events and set a pr in the preliminary race with a time of 25.34, which earned her a fifth place finish and a spot in the finals where she finished seventh. Haverty competed in her first 400 at the Big 12 Indoor meet where she set a pr in the prelims with a time of 57.53. Haverty continued her strong showings during the outdoor season as she focused more on her sprinting events. At the Potts Invite she set pr’s in both the 200 and long jump events. She took first place in the long jump with a jump of 18-01.00, while in the 200 she ran a time of 25.18 and finished in fourth place. Haverty also continued to improve in the 400 race, taking first at the Air Force Twilight Invite with a pr time of 57.00. She wrapped up her 2007 season at the Big 12 Outdoor meet where she competed in both the 200 and 400 races, and finished 14th in the 400.

2006: Haverty earned her best placing of the season with a fourth-place long jump at the Air Force Invite. She recorded a personal best of 18-01.00. The same day, she also pr’d in the triple jump with a mark of 36-10.25. Haverty ran the 200 meter run at the invite, taking 14th overall in 26.35.

2005 (at UC Santa Barbara): Haverty set the school record in the triple jump at 39-9 and earned a letter. She helped UCSB to a Big West championship.

HIGH SCHOOL: Haverty earned three letters in track and field and four for basketball as a Bruin. As a senior, she broke the school and league’s long jump record. Haverty was the captain of the basketball and track teams and earned most valuable player honors in each sport.

ACADEMICS: Haverty is majoring in journalism at Colorado and is also interested in business. She hopes to write for a magazine after graduation. A fall ’05 Commissioner’s Honor Roll member, she carries better than a 3.00 GPA.

PERSONAL: Chelsea Haverty was born on June 26, 1986 in Tucson, Ariz. Her parents are Mike and Diane Haverty of Windsor, Colo. Her father played football at UNLV. Her cousin Kaycee Vannoy played basketball at Western (Ill.) and another cousin, Jamie Vannoy, golfed at Texas A&M. Haverty has coached at basketball camps after playing four years for BRHS.
