One of five former CU student-athletes to serve on the coaching staff at Colorado, following a seven-year stint in broadcast journalism, Ards (pronounced Ard) returned to her alma mater in 2002 to serve as the Buffs’ sprints and hurdles assistant coach.

Since taking the reigns of the Buffs’ sprinters and hurdlers, she has coached five regional qualifiers and NCAA provisional qualifier Daneeka Torrey in 2004. Current sprinter George Pincock was a 2004 USA Junior National qualifier and is the first Buff to score in the 200-m in Big 12 Conference Championship competition.

The former Colorado All-American sprinter under then-head coach Jerry Quiller, ran for the Buffs from 1991-96, turning in an All-American finish as a member of the 1996 4x400-m relay team that ran a combined 3:33.07 at the 1996 NCAA Championships. She is also the school record holder in the outdoor 400-m (54.22).

Born Jan. 22, 1973 in Tucson, Ards graduated from Colorado in 1995 with a degree in broadcast journalism. Sans graduation she worked at KACT radio in Aurora, Colo. as the news director/sports anchor from 1997-99 when she took over as the on-air sports producer at Chicago’s WSCR until 2001 when she went on to work for Fox Sports Net/Bay Area and the WB in Denver the summer of 2002 in a similar capacity before returning to the Boulder Campus.
