2011: Indoor: Smit-Perkins ran in three meets for the Buffs. She started her career with CU by placing fourth overall in the 3000 at the Potts Invite (1/22) with a time of 11:37.04. Smit-Perkins finished third in the mile (the unseeded section) at the Air Force Invite (2/11) with a time of 5:37.21.
Outdoor: Did not compete.
AT CALVIN: Smit-Perkins was coached by Brian Diemer, who won the bronze medal in the steeplechase in 1984, at Calvin. She was a member of the cross country and track & field teams. Smit-Perkins set the school record in the steeplechase (10:29.55) at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in 2010. She was fifth at nationals her senior year to earn All-American honors. Smit-Perkins also earned All-American status during the indoor season as a member of the distance medley relay team that placed sixth at nationals.
HIGH SCHOOL: Smit-Perkins won the state 800-meter run title as a junior. She earned three letters as a member of the BCHS cross country and four letters on the track team.

PERSONAL: Elizabeth Jennifer Smit-Perkins was born on Feb. 16, 1988 in Renton, Wash. She is the daughter of Kevin and Peggy Smit. Kevin played basketball and Peggy ran track at Dordt College. Smit-Perkins is married to Kevin Perkins, who ran at Western Washington. She enjoys reading and hiking.
