2015: Indoor: Mars focused on the longer sprints during his sophomore campaign. He placed 10th in his section of the 400 at the Husky Classic (2/14), finishing with a season best of 49.35. At the MSPF Championship two weeks later, he placed 26th in the 400 in 49.76. Mars also raced on the 4x400-relay at the meet, which finished seventh in 3:16.91.
Outdoor: Mars individually ran the 400 and also played an important role in the relays. He started the season off brilliantly, clocking 47.77 in the 400 to win the Jerry Quiller Classic (3/21). His second best time of the year was 47.97, which he ran for a runner-up finish at the Jack Christiansen Invite (4/25). Mars placed 10th in the preliminary round of the Pac-12 Championships, finishing in 48.51. He also ran on the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. The 4x400 placed sixth (3:13.90), while the 4x100 was eighth (41.05).
 
2014: Indoor: Mars concentrated on the 200 and 400-meter dashes and was a member of the sprints relays. He raced to a season-best time of 21.73 in the 200 prelims at the Air Force Invitational (1/24), placing third. Mars finished the finals second overall (21.86) on the following day. His season-best in the 400 was a seventh-place finish at the Don Kirby Collegiate Elite unseeded section, finishing in 49.00. Mars raced in the 200, 400 and 4x400 relay at the MPSF Championships. He placed 20th in the 200 (22.21), was 26th in the 400 (49.83) and helped the relay to a 10th-place finish (3:18.95).
Outdoor: Redshirt. Did not compete.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Mars, the MVP of the Cherokee Trail Cougars track and field team in 2013, helped the Cougars win the 2013 5A Colorado State Championship. He holds a school record in the 200-meters with a time of 21.55.

HIGH SCHOOL BESTS: 100-meters: 10.61; 200-meters: 21.55; 400-meters: 47.88.

IN THE CLASSROOM: Mars is an English major.

PERSONAL: Jaylyn Elijah Mars was born on November 1, 1994 in Aurora, Colo. He is the son of Kristina Mars and Lavell Hamilton and has one sister, Shyla. He enjoys playing Xbox and riding his bike, and he is the first in his family to go to college.
