2010: Indoor: Kark recorded the top three throws in the shot put by a Buff. She recorded a toss of 42-08 at the Don Barrett Duals (1/30) and placed fourth at the meet. Kark followed that up with a throw of 43-06.50 at the New Mexico Classic (2/6). She saved the best for last with a toss of 44-09.50 at the Big 12 Championship. The throw made her the 10th best performer in the event in CU history. Kark also left her mark in the weight throw record book, becoming the fourth best performer in that event. She launched a toss of 50-11.50 at the Potts Invite (1/23), taking second-place.
Outdoor: Kark led the Buffs in the shot put, discus and hammer throws. She launched the top three throws in the shot put and hammer throw, and added the top seven in the discus. Kark recorded PR’s in all three events. She threw the hammer 160-04 at the CU Invite (4/09), placing fifth overall. In the shot put, Kark launched a throw of 46-03.50 at the Fum McGraw meet (5/8), which was good for second-place. Her top throw in the discus came at the Big 12 Championship. She recorded a mark of 155-06 and just missed scoring for the Buffs with a ninth-place finish.
2009: Indoor: Kark won the shot put at the Potts Indoor Invite with a throw of 41-00.25 and took fifth in the weight throw (45-09.00). She recorded personal records in both events during the season. She took fifth at the Air Force Duals in the shot put (42-08.00) and fourth in the weight throw at the Colorado School of Mines Twilight (48-09.00). Kark threw in both events at the league championship; each time coming in 19th.
Outdoor: During the outdoor season, Kark focused on the discus and hammer throws. She peaked in the discus at the Big 12 Championship, bettering her PR by four feet with a toss of 155-06 and just missed scoring for the first time with a ninth-place finish. She was 18th overall in the hammer throw (152-10). Kark’s PR in the hammer throw was at the Jack Christiansen Invite. She recorded a mark of 157-00 and was sixth.
2008: Indoor: Kark competed in the shot put and the weight throw during the indoor season. She recorded a pair of runner-up finishes in the shot put. Kark was second at the Potts Invite to start the season with a throw of 39-00.5. A week later she tossed a season high (40-00.75) at the Joe Davies Invite. Kark placed 18th at the Big 12 Championship in the shot put. She was 20th at the championship in the weight throw with a toss of 45-01.75.
Outdoor: During the outdoor season Kark competed mainly in the discus and hammer throw. She launched a season-bests in the discus of 148-08 at the conference meet and took 11th overall. Her best toss in the hammer throw was also at Big 12s. She took 16th with a mark of 139-00.0
2007: Indoor: Kark had a strong freshman season in several of the throwing events. During the indoor season she competed in the shot put and weight throw events. Kark set her season record in the shot put at the Don Barrett Open with a distance of 40-06.00, earning her a sixth-place finish. In the weight throw, she set her season record at the Big 12 Indoor meet with a throw of 46-00.00, which gave her a 17th place finish. Kark’s highest placing in these two events came at the Potts Indoor Invite where she placed fourth in the shot put and finished third in the weight throw.
Outdoor: After a successful indoor season, Kark carried her momentum over into the outdoor season. She continued to have strong showings in the shot put and set a PR at the Jack Christiansen Invite with a distance of 42-04.75, placing fifth. At the three other outdoor meets she competed at, Kark earned a pair of second place finishes and one third-place finish in the shot put. She also competed in the discus and hammer throw during the outdoor season. Kark set a season-best of 142-02 in the discus at the Potts Invite, which earned her a third-place finish. In the hammer throw, Kark top throw came at the Rob Upton Invite where she placed seventh with a throw of 145-11.
HIGH SCHOOL: Kark earned three letters as a member of the Mountain Vista High School Track and Field team. She owns the school record in the shot put and discus. Her shot put record is 39-0 and her discus throw was 140-5. Both records were set at the 2006 5A Colorado State Championships. She placed second in the discus and fifth in the shot put. MVHS won the 4A Regional Championship in 2004. Kark placed fifth at the USATF Junior Nationals in 2005. She was also a member of the MVHS softball team, earning four letters. Kark was also recruited by Colorado School of Mines and Colorado State.
ACADEMICS: Kark is a mechanical engineering major at Colorado. She has a 3.276 GPA and is a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Kark was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2010. She was a first team academic all-state selection her freshman through senior seasons.
PERSONAL: Kaitlin Marie Kark was born on July 31, 1988 in Torrance, Calif. to Donald and Robin Kark. She has two younger siblings, Patrick and Megan. Karks lists photography, softball, reading, music, sports, drawing and watching movies as her hobbies. She has volunteered with Operation Christmas Child and Holiday at the Mansion.
