2005 Outlook: An NCAA finalist in the 10k, Wetmore anticipates a repeat performance in that event and in the 5k at the Big 12 and NCAA Championships.
2004: Toedebusch returned to the track competing in distance events lettering in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. In the indoor season she ran a campaign best 9:30.54 at the Adidas Classic in the 3k before finishing second at the Big 12 Championships two weeks later in a time of 9:33.47. Toedebusch also faired well in the 5k during the indoor season finishing second at the University of Washington’s Last Chance meet, third at the Big 12 Championships, and 16th at the NCAA Championships. Toedebusch finished the outdoor season by scoring at the Big 12 Championships in the 5k with a seventh-place finish and a fourth-place finish in the 10k.
At Villanova (2001-03): A standout performer in a young corps of distance runners, she competed in the 800, 1,600, 3,000 and 5,000-meter distances. Her best event was the 5k, when she took home a third-place finish at the 2002 Big East Indoor Championships and then placed seventh with a 16:16.64 during the conference outdoor finals. At the National Scholastic Invite in 2001, she posted a 2:15 in the 800, while her top time in the 1,600 came on the DMR unit when she ran a 4:45.01 at the 2002 ECAC. In the 3k, she ran a 9:28.64 at the UNC Last Chance Meet. She did not compete in the 2003 outdoor season, as she utilized a redshirt year.
Cross Country: Villanova’s No. 1 runner as a freshman, she was the Wildcats’ No. 2/3 as a sophomore prior to transferring to CU before her junior season where she earned all-Big 12, all-NCAA Mountain Region and All-American honors with a career-best 38th place finish. She redshirt the 2003 season.
High School: A four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track at Rockford, Toedebusch graduated as the Michigan state two-mile record holder and was the state’s indoor two-mile champion in 1999 and ’00. She was an all-state performer in cross country as a freshman and sophomore, and on the national scene she was a prep All-American her junior and senior seasons, finishing 10th in the national championships in 1999 and fifth in 2000. On the track she was a member of the national champion distance medley relay team and was an All-American in just her second track season. She repeated her DMR national title as a junior and added national crowns in the 4x800-meter and 4xmile relays as well, successfully defending the 4xmile title as a senior.
Academics: A sociology major with a 3.404 grade point average, Toedebusch made the Dean’s List in the fall ’03 and the Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times.
Personal: Kalin Toedebusch was born September 8, 1982 in Traverse City, Mich. She is the daughter of Robert and Lori Toedebusch of Rockford and the older sister of Kelsey, who attends Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich. She is engaged to marry 2003 NCAA Cross Champion Dathan Ritzenhein.
