2010: Indoor: Did not compete.
Outdoor: Johansen ran in the 1,500, 3k, 5k and 10k runs for the Buffs. She ran the 5 and 10k at the Big 12 Championship. Johansen started the meet with the 10k, placing 14th overall with a time of 36:43.20. The 5k was two days later and she took 20th overall (17:09.04).
2005-07 (at Minnesota): Johansen ran two years with the Golden Gophers, earning letters in both cross country and track and field. Her best cross country time was in 2005 at the pre-national meet when she finished in 22:47. Johansen helped the Gophers win their first indoor Big 10 team title in 2007 (first cross country or track team title). She ran the 3k and 5k during the indoor season and moved to the 5k and 10k during outdoors.
HIGH SCHOOL: Johansen still owns the CCHS record in the 3200-meter run at 11:13. She had also been a part of the 4x800 relay (9:35) school record which has since been broken.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Johansen is majoring in environmental engineering at Colorado and carries a GPA greater than 3.0. She was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll this past fall.
PERSONAL: Kristin Gail Johansen was born on July 20, 1986 in Denver, Colo. She is the daughter of George and Gail Johansen. Her mother was a professional figure skater and her grandfather pitched for the Ohio State baseball team. She lists her hobbies as skiing and learning Chinese. Johansen is a co-founder of the Qinghai Minority Youth High-Altitude Education Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting education among the minority prefectures of Qinghai Province, China. She was an assistant researcher and producer of the film “Alchemy of Consciousness,” a documentary about China’s water crisis and lived in a students’ cooperative community while attending Fudan University in Shanghai, China (2008-09).
