High School: Crockenberg was a four-time letterwinner in track at Pueblo South High School where he competed in hurdles. He holds the record for 110-m hurdles (14.6) and the 300-m hurdles (38.9). He finished second in the 110-m hurdles and third in the 300-m hurdles at the state meet his junior year. He was a second team all-conference selection in track that year. Crockenberg also played football for the Colts and was named to the all-conference team his final two seasons as a defensive back.
Personal: Michael David Crockenberg was born on March 10, 1985 to parents David and Sue Crockenberg in Pueblo, Colo. His father was a collegiate swimmer at Syracuse. Crockenberg chose Colorado over Idaho State, Fort Hays State and Arizona State because he wanted to stay close to home. He is enrolled at Colorado as an open-option major.
