CAREER UPDATE: Bradley Harkrader is an All-American and Big 12 Champion from the 2008 indoor season. He has earned four All-Big 12 honors and continues to excel in the classroom. He is the ninth-best performer in the indoor 5,000-meter run chart and ranks 15th and 20th all-time.                                                                                          

2008: Harkrader was one of CU’s top 5,000-meter runners during the 2008 season. He started off the season by running two of the best marks in school history in the event. Harkrader started off with his first sub-14 minute 5k at the Husky Classic (13:59.19) which ranks 20th at CU. He followed that up a few weeks later at the Seattle Last Chance meet and took third with a time of 13:54.53. Harkrader capitalized on his performances and won his first conference crown in the event on Feb. 29 with a time of 14:11.09. He also took 17th at the meet in the 3k. Harkrader earned his first All-American honor by placing 12th at the indoor championship in the 5k. The 5k continued to be a strong event for Harkrader during the outdoor season. This time at the conference meet, he took sixth, still putting up points for the Buffs. Just two days prior, he had taken second in the 10,000-meter run, which was his debut in the event. Harkrader recorded 11 points for the Buffs at the championship.

2007: Harkrader competed twice in the 5,000-meter during the outdoor season. He recorded a time of 14:24.41 at Mt. Sac Relays and placed 20th in his race. Harkrader earned a huge pr two weeks later at the Stanford Invite when he recorded a regional qualifying mark of 14:06.66.

2006: Redshirt. Did not compete.

2005: Harkrader turned in a fantastic indoor season by setting two personal bests and recording a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. The qualifying time was a 14:10.55 mark in the Big 12 Indoor 5,000-m race for fifth place, which was also a personal record. He set another personal record with an 8:26.53 finish in the Big 12 Indoor 3,000-meter race.

CROSS COUNTRY: Harkrader only saw action in the Iowa State Invite in 2008 and placed sixth overall. Harkrader showed he was returning to form for the Buffs in 2007. After leading the ?B’ team at the Air Force Invite with a first-place finish and earning CU Athlete of the Week honors; he returned to the varsity team. At the Big 12 Championships he earned 16th-place overall and was CU’s fifth scorer, helping the Buffs clinch their 12th straight Big 12 title. Harkrader was the No. 4 scorer for CU at the regional and national meet. He earned his second straight all-region honor by placing 12th. Harkrader was 92nd at nationals. Harkrader was CU’s No. 6 harrier in 2006. He placed 57th at pre-nationals. At the Big 12 Championship, he placed 53rd overall and was the ninth Buff to finish. Harkrader moved back up and despite being the sixth Buff to cross the finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional, he earned a 22nd-place finish and all-region honors. He capped off his season with a 152nd-place finish at nationals, helping CU to its second title in three years. In 2005 he only ran one race, the Rocky Mountain Shootout, prior to taking a redshirt for the season. He finished third overall and second on the team in the race. In 2004, he was one of two true freshmen to run in CU’s national championship race. Harkrader scored as the Buffs’ fourth finisher in his collegiate debut Rocky Mountain Shootout (seventh overall) and as CU’s fifth runner at the Pre-National Invitational (34th overall). He did not compete in the Big 12 meet due to injury. In his first NCAA meet he finished 121st in Terre Haute, Ind.  He was an all-region performer with a 12th place finish at the regional championships.

HIGH SCHOOL: As a freshman, Harkrader was a second-team All-Front Range League performer in cross country before turning in first-team finishes as a sophomore and before winning the league and regional crowns as a junior and senior. He was also named all-region and all-state as a junior and senior. He was the Rocky Mountain News runner of the year following his senior campaign. The Trojans were the 2002 and ’03 Front Range League Cross Country Champions. Harkrader won the 5A State Cross Country title in state best 14 minutes, 49.4 seconds, a meet record previously held by 1998 NCAA Champion and 2000 Olympian Adam Goucher (14:54.7) and was named USA Track and Field’s Athlete of the Week as a result. He concluded his prep career with a fourth place finish at the 2003 Foot Locker Midwest Regionals in a time of 15:19 before an All-American 12th place finish at nationals in San Diego in 15:24. Harkrader’s prs in the 5k cross country (14:49), 1,600-m (4:18) and 3,200-m (9:75) double as Thornton HS records and all were ran in state championship races in 2003 and 2004.

ACADEMICS: A chemical engineering major at Colorado, he has a 3.297 grade point average and has been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. 

PERSONAL:  Born May 1, 1986 in Louisville, Colo., Bradley James Harkrader is the son of Ronald and Karyn Harkrader of Westminster.  He has two sisters, Aubrey and Kristen. His hobbies include running and road biking.
