2010: Indoor: Correia concentrated on the short sprints/hurdles during the first half of the season. He recorded five of the top six times by a Buff in the 60 hurdles, including season-best times of 8.51 twice. The first time Correia recorded that mark was at the Don Barrett Duals (1/30) and he placed fourth. The second time was two weeks later at the Air Force Invite (2/13). This time he finished seventh overall. Correia ran his season best in the 60 at the Colorado School of Mines Twilight Open (2/19), running a time of 7.33 to tie for ninth.
Outdoor: Correia continued with shorter distances during the outdoor season. He concentrated on the 110-hurdles and ran a wind-aided top mark of 15.15 at the Jack Christiansen Invite (4/24). Correia’s top mark without wind was 15.17 at the Front Range Classic (5/1).
2009: Indoor: Correia entered CU as a combined events athlete, competing in one heptathlon during the indoor season. He recorded 3,898 points at the Potts Invite to place fifth. Correia turned his focus to the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and long jump for the rest of the season. His best time of the season in the 60 was 7.35 at the Air Force All-Comers meet (1/16). Correia ran a season best of 6.54 in the 60 hurdles at the Air Force Invite (1/13). His best long jump is 20-03.50, recorded at the Colorado School of Mines Twilight meet (2/20).
Outdoor: Correia ran in three meets during the outdoor season. He earned a personal best of 11.77 in the 100 at the CU Invite (4/11). He placed fourth in the 110-hurdles at the Front Range Classic with a time of 15.62.
HIGH SCHOOL: Correia was the Maryknoll High School Male Athlete of the Year and the Gatorade Player of the Year for Hawai’i Track and Field as a senior. Correia captured state titles in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles as a senior to complete an undefeated season. Both times he ran were personal bests. As a junior, Correia started competing in both hurdle events and took third in both at the state championship. Correia was a state qualifier as a sophomore in the triple jump.
ACADEMICS: Correia is majoring in psychology.
PERSONAL: Javen William Roy Correia was born on April 18, 1989 in Honolulu, Hawai’i. He is the son of Abreu and Frances Correia. He has one older sister, Antoinette, three older brothers, Abram, Jeremy, Jalem, and two younger brothers, Aidan and Jarius. Jarius is 12-years-old and competes in the Special Olympics and is Correia’s greatest inspiration. He lists his hobbies as hunting pigs, going to the beach, diving and fire knife dancing.
