Widely regarded as the top girls high school basketball player in the state of Colorado in 2008, Alyssa Fressle was thrown right into the Buffaloes rotation as a first-year player. Despite some rough moments, thoroughly expected for a true freshman playing in the nation's premier conference, Fressle held her own and emerged as one of the top first-year players in the Big 12 in 2009. She brings a strong work ethic, mental toughness and a commitment to excellence to the Buffaloes team. Primarily a guard who can play any of the back court positions on the floor. She has the ability to score a lot of points and do so in a variety of ways, whether it's from the outside, off the dribble or in transition.
2008-09 (Freshman): Fressle was named to the 2009 All-Big 12 Conference Rookie team after leading all league freshmen in assists (3.4 apg), steals (1.8 spg) and minutes played (30.9 mpg) while ranking third in scoring (7.7 ppg). She was Colorado's leader in assists with 99, the most by a freshman since Linda Lappe had 110 in 1999. Overall on the Big 12 charts she ranked ninth in assists, 10th in steals and 11th in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.9). Fressle was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week during the final weekend of the regular season by averaging 11 points, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and two rebounds while hitting 50 percent from the field in games against Nebraska and No. 21 (AP) Kansas State. She scored in double digits in 12 games, including a personal best 19 against Drexel (11/29). Fressle had five or more assists eight times and held the team's top single-game mark of eight, which she accomplished on three occasions. Despite being a true freshman, Fressle was called upon to play straight up against some of the nation's best backcourt players, including Andrea Riley of Oklahoma State and Shalee Lehning of Kansas State. Fressle recorded 52 steals on the year, ranking second on the team and also had 11 blocked shots, the third best on the team and most by a backcourt player. She was named the team's Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. She was also cited as CU Athletics' Female Rookie of the Year at the annual CUSPY Awards.
High School: Fressle is a 2008 graduate of Highlands Ranch High School where she played for one of the most storied programs in recent Colorado history. She helped the Falcons to three straight Class 5A State Championships (2006-08) and was named the Colorado Player of the Year by both the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News in 2008. The Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year in 2008, Fressle was a fourth team Parade All-American, nominated to the McDonald's All-America team and earned honorable mention to the 2007-08 WBCA All-America game. A two-time All-Colorado selection (both Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News) and three-year All-Continental Conference pick, Fressle averaged 17 points a game as a senior and was named the MVP of the 2008 Colorado Class 5A State Tournament. During Fressle's senior year, her team finished with a 25-3 record and was ranked as high as seventh in the nation by USA Today. She was the lone junior on the 2007 All-Colorado team as she averaged 17 points to lead the Falcons to a 25-3 record. Fressle was an honorable mention to the 2006 All-Colorado team averaging 13.6 points while helping Highlands Ranch to a 24-3 mark and the first of her three straight state titles. In 2006 her team won the Lone-Star Invitational in San Antonio and she was named to the All-Tournament team. Fressle competed in "The Show" All-Star game as a junior and senior and the Nike Camp in Santa Ana, Calif.
