2017-18 (Freshman): Castro played in 17 games as a backup guard during her freshman season, averaging 2.4 points. She totaled 40 points, 17 rebounds, 14 steals and 10 assists. She scored four points and had two assists in 17 minutes of her first collegiate action on Nov. 24, a win over Mississippi Valley State, and had six points in a win over North Dakota State on Nov. 29. Her best game came on Dec. 21 in a win over Westminster (Mo.) when Castro scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range, and added six rebounds, four steals and three assists. In Pac-12 play, she scored two points each against USC, No. 14/14 UCLA, Arizona and No. 17/17 Oregon State.

High School: Sara Castro graduated from IES Guanarteme in 2017. Her team won the national championship in 2016-17 and won the Canary Islands championship every year from 2014 to 2017. She also averaged 15.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 2016-17.

Academics: Castro plans on majoring in business. After graduation, she would like to become a sports agent.

Personal: Sara Castro Marrero was born on Oct. 14, 1999, to Joaquin Castro Marrero and Leticia Marrero León. She has an older brother Jorge and an older sister Alba. She grew up in the Canary Islands of Spain, near Africa, and is bilingual. She hopes to play for the Spain national team after her career at CU. Her favorite sports team is FC Barcelona and if she were to play another sport in college, it would be soccer.
