Career: Dougherty enters the spring of her fourth season at CU having played in six events and 17 rounds in her career. She has a career stroke average of 82.29 and has five rounds in the 70s.
2012-13 (RS-Jr.): In her fourth season on the squad, Dougherty suddenly finds herself the upper statesman of the team as the only player who’s been on the team more than two seasons and one of just three players returning form CU’s record-breaking 2011-12 season, although she took a redshirt that season. She played in CU’s first fall event, the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., and shot a 29-over par 245 (85-77-83) with one round in the 70s and finished 80th.
2011-12 (Jr.): She took a redshirt season recovering from injury, not seeing action in any tournaments.
2010-11 (So.): She played in two tournaments for the Buffs, compiling five rounds and coming up with a stroke average of 82.20, all in the fall. She had two rounds in the 70s, coming up with identical 79s in the first and third round of the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic. She was involved in a multi-car accident and unable to finish the third round of the Heather Farr Memorial. She had compiled a 25-over par 167 in the first two rounds before withdrawing.
2009-10 (Fr.): She played in three tournaments as an individual for the Buffaloes in her freshman season, with nine rounds of action. She compiled an 82.56 stroke average, 83.17 in six rounds in the fall and 81.33 in three rounds in the spring. She had two rounds in the 70s. She finished tied for 81st with a 28-over par 244 performance in the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational, 61st in the BYU at Entrada Classic with a 36-over par 252 and tied for 92nd in the MountainView Collegiate with a 31-over par 247.
High School: Dougherty was a four-year letter winner at Pioneer high school and was a four-time All-League selection and the team’s Most Valuable Player. As the number one golfer on her team, Dougherty led the Pioneer golf team to four-straight league championships. She advanced to the Regional Qualifiers all four years and as a senior she was a medalist after shooting a 71 at the Mare Island Golf Course. In her junior season, Dougherty was named the MVP of the league and was a second-team All-Metro selection. She currently holds the prep record at Pioneer high for her low round of 69 that she carded her senior year at the Rio La Paz Golf Club. A dual sport athlete, Dougherty also lettered four years in varsity soccer. She was a four-year starter and a three-time firs team all-league selection. As a junior, Dougherty was named the offensive MVP after leading her both her team and the league in assists.
Other: 2010: She participated in the California State Women’s Amateur in San Jose, Calif., in the off season and shot a 82-84-79—245. She went through qualification for both the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Amateur championships. For the open qualifying, she played at Coral de Tierra, Calif., and fired a 82-88—170.
Best Career Round In Competition: 69 (-3; Rio La Paz, Calif.; TCC League Sectionals in high school).
Academics: Dougherty is pursuing a degree in Business Marketing and she is also interested in Environmental Design at CU. A four-year P.A.T.R.I.O.T. award winner for maintaining above a 4.0 GPA in high school, Dougherty was also a member of the National Honors Society, the California State Scholarship Federation and she graduated sixth in her class.
Personal: Mary Devin Dougherty was born on December 27, 1990, and is the daughter of Neil and Rebecca Dougherty of Woodland, Calif. Dougherty comes from a very athletic background and is a second generation Buffalo as her father, Neil, is a former member of the ski team at CU. Her uncle Dan played collegiate tennis at the Air Force Academy and her uncle Drew played football at Dartmouth. Her cousin Dillon golfed at Northwestern University and was the runner-up in the 2005 U.S. Amateur. Dougherty was also recruited by Northwestern and the University of Portland, but chose to attend Colorado because she fell in love with the town of Boulder.
