2005-06 (Freshman): Ruybalid played three rounds for CU as a freshman, competing as an individual at the Heather Farr Memorial/CU Invitational. She took 77th after carding at 85-82-81-248 for 72 holes.
High School: As a sophomore in 2003 Ruybalid played to medalist honors in 11 of 12 South Central League tournaments including the Southern Regional Championship in Alamosa at Cattails Golf Course with a 1-over 73 and finished third in the 4A State Championship at Westwood Golf Course with an 81-79. In 2004 she won six of seven league tournaments including the Southern Colorado 4A Regional Championship (75) at Hollydot G.C. in Colorado City; set the women’s course record (72) at Show Hills G.C. in Canon City; played to a medalist finish in the Pueblo City High School Championship (75) on the Desert Hawk G.C; finished fourth with a 77-81 in the 4A State Championship at Colorado Springs Country Club. Ruybalid also played basketball for the Colts her freshman year and was a member of the swim team (freestyle and backstroke) her sophomore through senior seasons.
Other: In 2003 and ’04 she was selected to the Colorado Junior Golf All-Star Team and was also a member of Colorado’s America Junior Cup Team, playing in Whitefish, Mont., and British Columbia, respectively. Both seasons she qualified at the Colorado/Wyoming Regional at Englewood GC to play in the Optimist International in Florida. In 2003 she was the medalist in the World Junior Golf Cup Qualifier at Thorncreek GC, City of Aurora Junior Championship at Murphy Creek GC and Pueblo Women’s City Championship at Elmwood GC. In 2004 she added wins in the Callaway Junior World Qualifier at Aurora Hills GC and Future Collegiate World Tour Southern Colorado Junior Golf Shootout at Walking Stick GC. She also advanced to the semifinal round of CWGA Match Play and played in the Colorado Women’s Open at Green Valley Ranch in Aurora as one of only 14 amateurs, the only prep player, to make the final cut when the field was narrowed from 120 to 54.
In The Classroom: A 4.0 student all seven semesters at Pueblo South, Ruybalid will be enrolled in CU’s College of Arts and Sciences and is interested in pursuing a major in journalism. As a freshman and sophomore she was class secretary and as a junior was student body secretary. She has been a National Honor Society member since her sophomore year as well as president of the Spanish Honor Society.
Personal: Sarah Louise Ruybalid was born May 10, 1981 in Pueblo. She is the daughter of Ernest (a CU Law School graduate) and Sarah Ruybalid of Pueblo. She has two older brothers, Mark, who plays golf at CU-Colorado Springs and Joey, a sophomore at UCCS. Her hobbies include shopping and cooking (especially desserts). In her spare time she does volunteer work through Pueblo South’s Student Council and the Tri-Parish Youth Group, including tutoring twice a week at local elementary schools and local food drives.
