1999-00 – Battistella had a strong sophomore season, improving her stroke average to 78.52 in 31 rounds over 11 tournaments. She led the team in top-10 finishes (3) and sub-par rounds (2), while 29 of her 31 rounds counted towards the team score. She also had 19 rounds in the 70s. Battistella shot a career-best 71 twice during the season, first in the second round of the Heather Farr Memorial in September to lead her to a tie for sixth place (76-71--147). Her second 71 of the year was the second round of the Mountain View Collegiate, vaulting her to a career-best third-place finish (76-71--147). She also placed ninth at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial in October, going 77-75-80--232. Her 21st-place finish at the Big 12 Championships was a career best, including an even-par 72 in the second round.
1998-99 – The Buffs’ top newcomer made an immediate impact her freshman year. She carried the team’s third-lowest stroke average (78.69), which betters the school record (80.43) for a freshman, previously held by teammate Sarah Bellinger. She had her first top-10 finish when she tied for 4th in the BYU Invitational in September, which could be the team’s third highest individual finish of the season. She would add a second top-20 showing with a 17th place effort at the Diet Coke/Roadrunner Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. Battistella would go on to score in all but five tournament rounds (21) the third most on the team. Sixteen of her 26 tournament rounds fired were in the 70s while seven were in the 80s.
High School – Lettered each of her four years as a prep, three on the Bend girls’ golf team (sophomore through senior years) for head coach Mark Tichenor and one for Richland High as a freshman. Her golf pedigree is nothing if not impressive: She was the Oregon state co-champion in 1996 and 1997 before claiming outright medalist honors in 1998, making her the first girl in Oregon history to claim all or part of three consecutive state titles. She finished third in Washington’s state tournament as a freshman at Richland, and she was a three-time district champion and four-time selection to the all-state and all-conference teams. Battistella was the Tri-City women’s amateur champion in 1996, when she also one the Central Oregon Junior Golf championship. She was one of 11 preps named to the Portland Oregonian’s “Class of 1998,” joining fellow Colorado recruit Taylor Barton, a quarterback on the Colorado football team, on the list.
Other – She sparkled on the regional and national levels as well, finishing 11th in the 1996 USGA Junior Girls’ Stroke Play and recording eight top-10 finishes in American Junior Golf Association tournaments throughout her junior career. Battistella also finished in the top five in a host of other state and regional tournaments.
Personal – Born Nov. 20, 1979, in Bishop, Calif., Battistella is undecided on her major at Colorado. Her extensive hobbies include snowboarding, belly dancing, massage, soccer, drawing and writing.
