JUNIOR (2007): Cousins proved to be an integral part of the midfield, finishing the season as the third-leading scorer with three goals and two assists, for eight points. She was crowned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and named to the Soccer Buzz Team of the Week after scoring the equalizer in the overtime win against Oklahoma (2-1) and recording the game-winning goal two days later to defeat then-No. 25 Oklahoma State, 1-0. Cousins started every game for the Buffs and logged the third-highest number of minutes on the season with 1,921. Her eight points moved her to 11th on CU’s all-time career points list and her two assists moved her into sixth overall in career assists.
SOPHOMORE (2006): Was the second-leading scorer for the Buffs with five goals and seven assists on the year. Cousins was also a First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection, one of four Buffs to earn academic accolades. She scored the game-tying goal against Texas on Nov. 5 in CU’s 1-1 tie with the Longhorns in the championship game. She saw action in all 24 games and started all but one, playing 2,078 minutes on the season. Cousins led Colorado in assists with seven, the second-highest single season total in school history. Her 17 total points were the 13th highest single season total in CU history, and her five goals were good for 16th all time.
FRESHMAN (2005): Cousins started 12 of 24 games as a freshman, playing mostly in the midfield but also seeing time up top. She managed 30 shots on the season, including eight on goal in 1,169 minutes of play. She scored her first career goal in the Big 12 Championship game against Texas A&M, tying the game off a cross from Laura Munnelly at the 63:40 mark.
HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year letterwinner, following her junior and senior seasons Cousins was named the team’s most valuable player, first-team all-Northern Conference in ?04, and first-team all-Front Range in ?05. Rocky Mountain News All-Colorado, first-team all-state and the Denver Post’s 5A Player of the Year after leading the state in assists as a junior. She was all-Colorado and first-team all state both seasons. The Lambkins were the 2003 and 2004 Northern Conference Champions and the 2004 and 2005 5A state runners-up. Cousins played club ball for the Colorado Girls Soccer Academy which was the State Cup runners-up in 2004.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Cousins graduated with a 3.9 gpa and was FCHS’s Student of the Year in ?05. She was Colorado High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) Academic Team Champion and first-team Academic All-State performer from 2003-05 and was Fort Collins’ CU Junior of the Year. An environmental science major at Colorado, Cousins has earned recognition on both the Fall and Spring Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll since she arrived at CU and was able to maintain a GPA between 3.00-3.49 as a freshman during the Fall soccer season.
PERSONAL: Alexis Kayn Cousins was born May 16, 1987 in Fort Collins, Colo. She is the youngest of Marc and Sherry Cousins’ three children. She has two older brothers, Zack (25) and Jake (23). An artist, her mediums are painting and drawing. She also makes jewelry, enjoys mountain biking and climbing. Her volunteer work includes driving for Meals On Wheels, SART (Sexual Assault Resource Team) and RAPP (Raising Awareness of Personal Power).
